AIBU?

AIBU to think this is a fantastic present

It's my birthday today, so yesterday DH took DS (age 3) to buy me a present, safe in the knowledge that my main present had been delivered and just needed to be wrapped. So I'm now the proud owner of a 10 colour Star Wars biro (and a packet of Tangfastics). It's the sort of thing I'd never ever buy for myself (well maybe the Haribo) and I think it's a brilliant present. Can't wait till I next have to take notes at work.

Anyone else had any obscure but fantastic presents from their kids?

Not yet, dd is not quite yet 2.

Dp is a pain in arse to buy for, he buys everything he wants or wants stuff that's way out of my budget, so I've told him as if next year dd is choosing all of his presents.

Can't wait Grin

That's brilliant and exactly how presents should be. Cheap and mostly disposable. And everyone always needs pens.

Presents shouldn't be expensive for adults with their own money. Adults with their own money should choose and buy their own things, most people would prefer this anyway as opposed to have to wait for Christmas/Birthday to get the thing, or put up with the wrong style/colour/model when you say 'get a X item' or have the ridiculous charade of specifying the exact item so you get the right one and then tell people to buy you it and make it a Christmas or Birthday present.

I have present envy. 10 colour Star Wars biro ! You are so lucky. Be careful your colleagues don't nick it.

It beats the mushroom shaped sharpener my DS2 got me for Christmas with a sticky stretchy yellow man who is still stuck to my lounge ceiling.

DS, 8 then, bought a little wooden owl ornament with a baby owl that slides out from the parents owl's wings for me last Christmas. I love it so much. He spotted it when we were in the chemist's and made me go to a different part of the shop while he picked it up and paid for it.

DS (4) wanted to buy DH a present the other day “just because” - he chose a haribo advent calendar. DH’s reaction was as excited as if it had been a brand new Ferrari on the drive, DS is still over the moon that daddy loved the present so much. Unfortunately my hinting for a Pringles advent calendar went unheard and DS told me to use my own pennies 🙄

Dh helped DD to make me a card which was essentially a piece of paper covered in glitter. We still find glitter months later!

I now copy an idea I read on here years ago - at Christmas I give my DC £1 per parent and send them into poundworld to buy us presents.

It got them to think about others but without spending a fortune I just don't have. Just £1 means they have to really think what we'll like. It's always been fab stuff - maybe not what I'd buy myself but I love when they describe why they chose what they did, there's always a crazy logic to it. Grin

I'd love Star Wars biros. What a brilliant present!

Happy birthday. Mine was yesterday. October Scorpios are the far superior scorpios. Wink

Happy birthday for yesterday.

When my dd was 9 she gave me a pack of carefully wrapped batteries, cause they make everything work.
