To think that this is basic information?

Even with the top rack in the highest position, not all of my plates will fit in the dishwasher! Why don't retailers or manufacturers make this information easy to find? I'd much rather know what size plates fit in a dishwasher than how much water it uses or that it plays a tune when it's finished!

My plates are different sizes but all fit. How big are yours?

Yep, having to replace plates because of a dishwasher is v. aggravating.

Next dishwasher replacement, in the shop DC hissed in embarrassment ' you can't do this Mum' as I put my specimen plate in one dishwasher after another. But I did.

Maximum size will probably also be determined by the shape of the plates too so very difficult to specify. Next time do a 'Mr Bean' and take your plates to the shop.

My, very plain, white, mid range John Lewis (so presumably popular) plates don’t fit in my dishwasher and I’m sure as hell going to take a sample plate with me when I next buy one.

I took a slice of bread with me when I bought a new toaster.
Would definitely take a plate with me when a new dishwasher is needed

Yes yes yes. I was stung this way by my first dishwasher. It ruined my first dishwasher experience and I was the only person who could reliably fill the fucking thing which kind if took away the whole point of it.Angry

Definitely take a test plate, also when shopping for a microwaveAngry

I won't buy an oven unless I can get my lasagne dish and turkey tin in there (not at the same time).

I made a cardboard template last time I went buy a toaster because I was sick of my perfectly standard Warburton toastie bread sticking out of the toaster.

I had a small band of Curry's assistants gathered to watch. Irritatingly, I bought the 'designed for Warburtons' toaster and it still doesn't fit the bread.

But OP, your plates must be extra massive. We've got giant Ikea plates that didn't even fit in the cupboard until we got an Ikea kitchen and they've fit in both dishwashers we've used them in.

Yes! This happened to us. The plates were not large or oddly shaped. The machine had pull-out cutlery drawer at the top which, I assume, reduced the amount of space for the actual shit you wanted it to wash. Hmm

I have a top cutlery drawer which does impact on the available height on the bottom rack. My dinner plates are too big to sit upright, but they lean forward and fit perfectly well and they still get cleaned just as well. I prefer having a cutlery drawer and I love having a Miele because it's nearly silent, so it's a compromise worth making.

Never had this, and |I have owned 7 or 8 dishwashers in my life.
I use all ikea white crockery. Never had a problem.

@someday and @Barbara I used to spend a lot of time swearing at toasters that didn't toast the top inch of bread. Until I realised I could put the bread in on its side. Blew. My. Mind.

Is it a slimline dishwasher? I have never owned a dishwasher that won't accept my plates. I currently own a Bosch.

Agree about toasters. The one we have has longer slots so I can put my bread in sideways.

I gave massive p,ages and mine fit. Bog standard Bosch's, they also fit in the CDA crappy one before and the Whirlpool one before that. The shape of the slits in this one mean the plates tilt very slightly back, but I assumed that was for better cleaning.

I hadn't realised there was an issue with toasters. I've always bought the long-slot type so that I can heat up nan bread in it, so tall pieces of regular bread just go in sideways.

11 months later, I'm still annoyed that the new microwave doesn't fit a carton of soup in without decanting it into a jug first...I'm taking a carton of Covent Garden soup with me next time! !

My ikea plates didn't fit in the dishwasher in my old rented flat but do fit in the dishwasher in my new flat and the dishwashers look "about the same size" to me.
