AIBU?

Time to give up FB ?

Bitchinabonnet · 24/10/2017 15:14

I'm thinking about closing my FB account . Nothing dramatic has happened but I just find myself over-analysing things (suffer from anxiety anyway) and it just seems that so many people use it as a tool to be spiteful and passive/aggressive .
Thoughts ?

I deactivated mine a few years ago. I don’t miss it at all. I used to over analyse stuff and it made me miserable.

I realised that FB was quite draining for me a few months back - but was reluctant to let it go completely due to messenger and a couple of groups.

I tried an interim method of unfollowing everyone and no longer posting (not that I did very often anyway). Not having much in my timeline broke the habit of looking at it, so now I only use it for messenger and these groups. Happier!

You arent getting any benefit out of it, and you could spend the time with more positive people.

I got rid of mine a year ago and missed it for a while but now never think about it and feel a lot happier. I still have Instagram but hardly go on it anymore

OP, it has the same effect on me if that is any help.

Never had FB, think it's ghastly and I would give it up if you think you won't miss it.

I gave up Fb a couple of years ago, didn't regret it for a minute. I think it's rules alot if people's lives. They can't go longer than 5 minutes without checking it incase they're missing out on something. It's also never a true reflection of most people's lives.

You're not alone OP, I don't like it either. I think there's a huge pressure to be on it because it seems like everyone is but I think more than 2/3 of my friends and family have given up on it now.

I think of it like this, if a bunch of my friends liked to hang out in a particularly rowdy Wetherspoons (or Hooters) I'd not bother going along, I'd say that I'd catch up with them somewhere else. Those places make me feel uncomfortable and I struggle to hear and be heard and it's kind of the same with Facebook.

Why would you be unreasonable? FB is only another social media tool at the end of the day and isnt compulsory. I enjoy it and have no intention of giving it up but if you dont enjoy it just stop.

I deactivated my account about 6 months ago, haven't missed it at all. Facebook was great for a short while, catching up with old school friends and what have you. But then you realise that there is usually a reason why you lose touch with people in the first place and you've got a friends list full of them, and they have all run out of interesting things to say. And they insist on filling your news feed with photos of their dinner.

Do it. I gave up Facebook a few months ago, seeing what felt like everyone else having a better time or parenting better (in my eyes) was affecting me in a negative way. One post could have me overthinking for the rest of day. It was ridiculous. Missed it a bit to start with but I rarely think about it now.

I left a couple of years ago, no big deal.

Download all your pics if you're worried about that (it's an option they give when you delete your account).

Give those you want to keep in contact with another means of doing so, but they probably will already have phone/email etc surely?

2 months ago i made my first FB account. Certain friends and relatives were like ''hooray, finally!''.

I've been on there about 5 times. Not at all in the last 10 days.

Yesterday i labeled FB notifications ''You have missed x y z's updates'' on yahoo as spam.

That's how FB is going for me Grin

So it's not just me then ? I tend to overthink things so find it taking up too much head space .
And some people's silliness and spite takes me back to being a teenager , somewhere I really don't want to return to .

@OkaakO you can deactivate your page but stay active on messenger

Thanks confusedlittleone - I did think about doing that but I still wanted to be able to use the FB groups and FB have discontinued their groups app.

I dumped Fakebook years ago. It's a total waste of time. You will feel so much better without it.
