AIBU?

I know IBU to spend £1k but I'm depressed. Is it a justifiable IBU? Or unjustifiable?

I'm thinking of spending £1k (slightly over that in fact) for a full set of new 300 thread count Yves Delorme bedding. It looks amazing and in my head will make my bedroom look like an interior designer has landed.

I'm feeling really depressed about all kinds of life shit issues at the moment.

I can afford it but not without thinking about it. I suppose what I'm saying is it won't put me in debt but it is a big spend for me and one I need to justify.

I feel like I have no happiness and some expensive luxiourous bedding might be a symbol of a fresh start and a clean out.

AIBU? Is it worth it? Or should I just by cheaper stuff? Or forget it all together?

I'd buy cheaper and get a few nice bits but generally I prefer to spend on experiences especially when I'm down

I bet it needs a fuck load of ironing.

I got Yves Delorme bedding much cheaper than that. It was from a previous season, though. I wouldn't spend 1k on it, that's for sure. It's lovely, but not worth that sort of money.

Can't you just get some nice Christy sheets?

Little bit worried I'm showing myself up because I haven't heard of the luxury designer you're talking about Blush

I have 300 thread count expensive bedding (birthday gift from lovely parents). It absolutely needs a fuck load of ironing to look beautiful! Even when I hang it on the line to dry, it’s gorgeous and I feel like a princess but you can get it less than 1k...

Totally fucking unreasonable Smile

Remember the days when £1K used to be a lot of money!?

I find I get bored with my bed linen after a while anyway, so it wouldn't be a purchase that would give me enough pleasure to be worth the money.

Lovely bedlinen is very sensuous, but I'd probably spend £150 on it and use the other £850 for some great experiences (theatre tickets? trip away? massages?) or something fitness related for longer term feeling good.

OP Flowers you mentioned that you're feeling down in your first post. Do you think counselling might help?

I hadn’t heard of the brand, so I looked it up...absolutely beautiful! But £45 for a pillowcase! Shock
Personally, I couldn’t justify it...but..if you can afford it and it will make you happy..I say go for it! And enjoy all the ironing!!

A grand on bedlinen? One set of bedlinen? Help me up . .

New bedding - whether £10 or £1000 - is not going to solve the root issue that you're feeling depressed. That's what you have to deal with.

Would you maybe feel happier spending that money on a holiday or a therapist? Opportunity cost just seems a bit steep.,

I'm genuinely puzzled. If you are feeling shit about all kinds of things in life, why not spend the 1k on sorting them out? Go to counselling or a life coach or personal trainer or to a retreat for a week. 1k on bedlinen is beyond me. A mattress, yes, but duvet covers? How will that help you feel better? (Not being sneery - genuine question. If it will, then get them. But will it?)

Spend the £1k on therapy. I’m pretty sure Ive paid a large chunk of my therapists mortgage.

I got some beautiful bed linen from The White Company. Feels very decadent but more like £150

I have a beautiful Bluebellgray set that is a 300 thread count. It feels lovely and costs just over £100 instead, and actually doesn’t need much ironing (thank God!).

I’ve also not heard the designer you are talking about so no idea how it compares.

Spend most of that on counselling and things to help you deal with whatever is making you stressed. Spend a tiny amount on bedding from Asda George or Next, still very nice but a fraction of the price.

I've got some Yves Delorme bedding (bought for much MUCH less than that at their Bicester Village outlet shop) and while it's very nice, it does need proper ironing, lots of it. Doesn't get used much these days.

I've got other (higher thread-count) bedlinen that actually takes a lot less work and feels even nicer, so personally, I'd spend the grand on something else.

Tk max have bed linen just as nice at a fraction of the price. I got a beautiful 500 thread count pure Egyptian cotton duvet with pillow cases for €120. Sheet of sheets with the same thread count for under a hundred. Treat yourself to something else like a holiday with the rest!

I don’t even know how many threads my duvet has. It can’t have cost more than £20 do not many threads. A whole bed costs less than £1000

WonderLime · 23/10/2017 22:51

I will add that quality bedding is something worth paying for (though not convinced £1000 is necessarily reasonable). I absolutely love the feel of the cotton against my skin and I’ve slept better since upgrading.

Ooh. I have an Yves Delorme dressing gown. I got it half price though.
