AIBU?

To be annoyed and WWYD?

Mentioned to friend, and godparent of DC, that I wanted to take DC to the theatre - they said they wanted to join us. A few weeks passed where I was looking at reasonably priced tickets (show is expensive); they mentioned it again saying they wanted to come too and then helped me book tickets by finding a good website to book them on. I decided that I'd buy ticket for them as a birthday gift which they were surprised, and pleased, about.

Show is this week- just received a text message saying they are tired and won't be coming anymore. 5 days in advance, they are tired. Person has habit of flaking due to tiredness - no kids or marriage and I feel this is a bit unreasonable, but feel they have no idea! DC will be very upset. They have offered to reimburse me the ticket price.

AIBU to feel annoyed? They stated numerous times they wanted to come. Its a big deal for us to go and for my DC - and yes, its expensive so not something we can do all the time.

And WWYD regarding the offer to reimburse? I had bought as a gift - but don't want to gift an empty seat!!! Equally, don't know who else I can ask to join as only 1 seat!!

Theatre may resell it for you.

Can your Dc not invite a friend to join you?

It is unreasonable of your friend, but at least she has offered to reimburse the ticket, so I would accept her offer.

Get someone else to use the tickets if you've got time.

I would be very pissed off, tired? That's a fecking lame excuse!

I'd text back "So you are planning 5 days in advance to be tired? That's very organised. I will take the reimbursement thank you, it would sicken to look at the empty seat and think of the wasted money, at least this way it's your money you are wasting not mine"

They might have a health problem, I was very tired for a while until I couldn't even get up in the morning, turns out I have hypothyroidism. There might something else but I wouldn't dismiss the tiredness.
Invite someone else to come with you.

Unfortunately I don't think I could invite another child as they are young and doubt they would be allowed a late night out like this; I know my DC will sleep before the event (they've promised Wink).

Wracking my brain as to which lone adult I can invite instead who want to/ could come!!

I understand your frustration but even people without kids or a marriage can have things going on in their life that might mean they can't face any socialising.
