People that are desperate for you to think that they have such a great life. If they're out, we all know about it. Tagged in lots of fab places, selfies with lots of fun looking people, pictures of their cocktails with a beautiful sunset behind it.
We went out drinking this weekend with a bunch of couples and whilst it was nice to be out (child free) it wasn't the best day ever (early bar). We had some laughs, but when I looked at the pics that I was inundated with, I thought 'was I at the same place as these people?'
Am I getting old? Am I a complete mardy arse for thinking this way? Or was I so smashed that I didn't realise that I was having so much fun?
I hope I'm not past it???!!! Tell me I'm not alone.

What's early bar?

Welwyncitydweller · 23/10/2017 08:52

I have a friend who lives an insta life, but only on insta. It’s sad

Henrythehoover · 23/10/2017 08:54

If you are then I am too. I think it's sad really as all this fake "we are having such a great time" stuff makes real life seem really drab and like your missing out on something. People seem so tied up with giving the impression of having fun that they don't enjoy the moment anymore. I've been out with people where they spend half the time looking at their phones and taking pictures that it's been a boring time but from their Instagram or fb you would think completely different. It's just sad!

Tazmum01 · 23/10/2017 08:57

2014 - early start. Met early afternoon, rather than the evening x

Why does it matter to you what other people are posting? Maybe they really did have a good time! Unless anyone outright lied or photoshopped it all, I wouldn’t dwell on it.

BillywilliamV · 23/10/2017 09:02

Have lots of fab time photos in frames in my hall, does that count?

Tazmum01 · 23/10/2017 09:02

Thank God it's not just me! It all seems too forced. I just wanted to relax, have a drink and a laugh.

Ha! I was out with some friends the other day and when someone's food arrives, out comes someone else's phone and Click! It wasn't even her dinner.

It was for Facrook I guess but why anyone would care what their Facebook friend's friend had for tea is entirely beyond me.

Tazmum01 · 23/10/2017 09:04

Billy - so have I! I've got some cracking photos of the family. Maybe I'm just as bad.

Balloon - isn't that the pits? I'd rather eat my food hot than waste precious minutes getting the perfect pic. I've even watched people rearrange their plate before snapping away. WTAF??

Dinosaur - you're right, I shouldn't get wound up. This incident annoyed me, because it WAS fake. We weren't having the great time that the pics said we did. But it's not the end of the world, I know.

Anytime lots of photos appear 'during' an event, I take it to be a sign that not much is happening so they are filling up the time with photos, doesn't everyone?

Trills · 23/10/2017 09:11

Do you expect people to take and share pictures when they are having a shit time?

NashvilleQueen · 23/10/2017 09:15

Maybe they are having a lovely time? Maybe their idea of what is worthy of a photo is different to yours?

Social media is probably at saturation point I agree but still it’s a harmless photo of someone (a friend even) smiling with a cocktail and a sunset. Scroll past if you don’t like. Personally I prefer those than the endless ‘I’m going to see how many of my so-called friends are decent people rather than heartless twats who won’t comment amen at this google images photo of a sick child in hospital for click bait purposes ‘

arethereanyleftatall · 23/10/2017 09:17

Yanbu.
Sometimes I think how much fb fun you seem to have is inversely proportional to the reality

charmedrose · 23/10/2017 09:18

I saw a woman in the pub with a baby one lunch time. The baby was in a high chair getting grumpy because she kept breaking off from feeding him while she kept trying to get the perfect shot of him with his face plastered with food. I couldn't believe how many she took of him. Shock

Her "friends" on facebook getting treated to those delightful shots were far more important to her than letting her baby enjoy his dinner.

acornsandnuts · 23/10/2017 09:19

I think the point is trills they werent having the best time but the photos conveyed they were.

I think wonder if those who post endlessly actually think those who don’t are sitting at home in their bed socks?

GirlsonFilm · 23/10/2017 09:20

I have unfriended people for this. I know that their real life is as dull as mine (FT working Mum) but if you read their FB page you'd think that they had it all, and more besides!

Trills · 23/10/2017 09:20

Weren't they having a nice time? It sounds like they were, to me.

victoire1208 · 23/10/2017 09:23

It's undeniably tacky and indicative of a mass narcissism epidemic.

I think you are curmudgeonly. Some people are trying to pretend they have a better life than they have, but most people are just sharing photos on face book with others who were actually there. I don't do this, but do get friends who share photos with all of us who were at a night out. Its nice to have photos of friends.

And some people who were at your night out may have had a very fun night out, even if you didn't enjoy it much.

Tazmum01 · 23/10/2017 09:27

charmedrose - that's awful!
I've been guilty of similar, I wanted a cheesy pic of me and the kids jumping in the air on the beach a few years ago (I said it was cheesy) my hubby must have taken 100+ to get the perfect one. Kids were pissed off, hubby was annoyed and I made everyone carry on. I'm no better.
