AIBU?

To share a failsafe to-do list system with you all?

Was reading a book about dealing with stress (think it's called Stress Management for Dummies) and it had a really good tip for making to-do lists.

The book suggests using a notebook for to-do lists so you can keep them all accessible and in one place.

The idea is that you have two to-do lists: a 'master to-do list' and daily to-do lists.

With the (bloody brilliant!!) master to-do list, you record absolutely everything you need to do on there. I quite like prioritising my tasks to-do list from 1 to 4 ('cos I'm anal like that Grin), with 1 being urgent and important, 2 being urgent but not important, 3 is not urgent but important and 4 is not urgent and not important.

You then use the daily to-do lists to complete each task in priority order.

Isn't it a fab idea?

I am strangely unmoved by this concept OP and roundly puzzled at your enthusiasm. I suspect if you and I went for coffee the conversation would be stilted. Grin

Er, sorry but it's not failsafe. I've done this in various forms for years and still failed many times :o

It does help though I agree.

I'm a procrastinator who is trying very hard to reform. When I had embossed a whole page of my bullet journal, alphabetised my lists, set up a multi coloured post it note system and a coloured pen system and still hadn't done my bloody filing I knew that I could not be trusted with stationery lists.
I use reminders on my phone and the most basic method I can't possibly waste time making 'organised'.
Fail safe? I am the failure and it is not safe!
I envy those with the will power to just use these wonderful methods to get things done!

But what do you do when you have completed the whole 'To Do' list 😯

I love to-do lists, but I make the first one then I never add on to it, because I think I’ll just remember to do whatever later.

I need to put ‘update to-do list’ on the list Sad

You need bullet journalling.

JeReviens Grin sorry, I know I'm getting a bit evangelical about it!

I'm so excited about the idea of being a reformed procrastinator that I'm trying to gather up loads of like-minded followers to help me in my quest to spread the word Grin

I tried that system once, and found it perfect for procrastinating....

I make to-do lists then slip in something I've already done just so I can tick something off really quickly Grin

I have a weekly to do list set up on an app. It has things on it that absolutely must be done each week and they get ticked off as they're completed. It is reviewed Sunday and anything not done is finished. The whole thing is reset before going to bed ready for the new week. It's been really helpful in making sure the house has a minimum standard of cleaning done and washing etc happens. I also have daily to do lists for other things.

I use a whiteboard. I make a list the night before of what I want to do the next day. I try to make it achievable but allow myself to carry one or two things over to the next day. Because the whiteboard is on the wall you can't put it on the side and ignore it like a notebook. I am such a procrastinator and get distracted really easily. I would love to be the kind of person who could just get things done.

I do that. It feels like I am carefully listing all my failures, in priority.

First thing on my To-Do List is Write List Grin

I do lists.
DH takes the p out of my Christmas lists that are plastered on the fridge with magnets.

I don't like the "Bring" list on my iPhone , they don't sit neatly in sections like my paper list .

I was doing this at work 25 years ago. It wasn't a massive success, tbh.

I watched the beginning of the video about the bullet journal, by the time he was dividing the page into 3 with a set square I was zoning out. Just use a memo on your phone, enter what you need to do and delete when you have done it.

I love my Bullet Journal which is very similar.

I don't really prettify it though (mainly because I can't be arsed) and I adjust it to my own needs.

I mainly use my Future Log which is a summary of the year ahead, a monthly calendar and a weekly spread across two pages - daily to do list on the left and my journal on the right. I also use collections - so like I've got a birthday list, summer holiday bucket list, christmas plans, etc

I'm a pretty disorganised person and I've found it really helpful. I do think I'm getting much better at not procrastinating since I started using it.

Just checked the Bullet Jounal website but it's so opaquely stylish it forgets to say wtf it actually is. Is it just a list writing app and nice notebook? Am I being thick to not get it?

I simply have a daily to-do list (written out). Anything I don’t get to that day is transferred to the next day. Nothing is missed then. If I have too many lists, things will inevitably go missing - that’s just me!

Am I missing something or is the Bullet Journal just a streamlined filofax? Shock

Report
Nonibaloni · 23/10/2017 00:08

Shhhh double it is a Filofax by another name. But it's beautiful and allows one to be the creator of beautiful things. The single best thing I have ever created. I am so proud of it.
I am in no way organised and just found a collect from the post office card from August in the hand crafted pocket made from handmade recycled paper.
