How do I stop procrastinating when I should be in bed??

This is a bit embarrassing to admit, as I feel like I should've worked it all out by now, but here's the million dollar question: how do I avoid faffing around at night and procrastinating when I should be getting ready for bed??

I decided to keep a time-management for two weeks, as I'm a champion procrastinator. Woke up exhausted this morning as I'd gone to bed at 2 after faffing over finishing off the time managment diary and procrastinating Blush

As I woke up late, I couldn't do everything I needed to before leaving the house, and then at work later on, it'll be tricky to power on through the day feeling knackered.

Any tips on how to avoid procrastination and get a good night routine in place please?

Dh is the same he has an alarm on his phone that goes off at 10 which tells him to go up and have a shower and go to bed. Incredibly simple but works really well. It's a lullaby to ringtoneSmile

Working out why you are putting off going to bed might work.....is it that however heartfelt your belief and determination is at 8 am, by 10 pm you've started to believe that staying up is an equally valid option. In that case I'd write myself a note in the morning reminding myself why I need to be more disciplined, and reading it later might nag me into doing it.
Alternatively I often put off going to bed as I'm too tired to do the work necessary to get there, so get ready early, nightwear on, makeup off, teeth brushed etc and then it's easier later to actually just go.

Just go to bed. Make a list of what jobs need doing of an evening, do then as soon as you get in,lock the door and be ready to go to bed at a set time perhaps.

Join our procrastination tread where we all worked out we have adult adhd :o

No but what actually works for me is setup an alarm for 10 pm so I know it's wind down time. At that time, I come off the computer, just for a minute, to make myself a hot drink and sometimes have a shower and/or clean up a little bit.

I can come off/away from what I'm doing by telling myself it's just for a moment.

While I'm away from the computer I think about what I want to do with my last hour and remind myself it's my last chance to play guitar, read in bed, etc. If I do decide to go back on the computer I switch the music to my wind down playlist and consciously don't start any activities which I know will take longer than an hour. I also use night mode on my pc which means it gets a red tint in the evening which helps.

By the time it gets near 11 I'm normally feeling sleepy.

Note I have not been doing this perfectly recently, but it works when I do it.

2? Two o'clock in the morning!? Ye gods i'd be on the floor Shock

DH and i are struggling to stop binge watching Walking Dead in the evening at the mo (season 6 to 7) and are watching 'just one more' till about half 11 instead of 10. That's bad enough!

My dh has the same, lullaby and all- does yours have a Fitbit? I think it comes from dh's Fitbit app.

I read a good tip on the procrastination thread mentioned above that there is about a 20 second window after thinking of something where you can just do it before you start talking yourself out of it. Obviously this doesn't work for everything as you may not be able to do things the minute you think of it, but maybe in combination with the alarm mentioned above. Also don't set the alarm till the latest time you can reasonably go to bed, if you set it too early you will think it's actually a bit early so I will just finish what I'm doing, have a cup of tea, check MN and then go.
