"Your home should always be spotless because you never know who is going to knock at the door." Said to me by a friend after I declined hosting a get together at my house with some mutual friends, as I said my house is quite messy. I have 4 children and I'm a single parent (never get a break as ex is absent and I have no family,) baby is going through a phase of screaming blue murder if not being held, but apparently "there are no excuses."

HirplesWithHaggis Thu 19-Oct-17 23:34:48

I'm sure she'd be delighted to host in your stead, then. wink

Of course it's nonsense.

Awwlookatmybabyspider Thu 19-Oct-17 23:35:09

I don't know what planet your "friend"
lives on, but it sure ain't this one.

Misspollyhadadollie Thu 19-Oct-17 23:38:01

Thank goodness others agree with me. When I was telling her how difficult it is as I hardly ever get a chance to tidy as the baby is stuck to me all day (cluster feeding) and the only chance I really get is a night when she's asleep but by then I'm exhausted I was told "well it's not impossible" the joke is she has one child who is a teen but was comparing me to her saying she still manages to have a spotless home. (I have 4 kids under 7)

HidingBehindTheWallpaper Thu 19-Oct-17 23:38:35

She isn’t a friend.

StitchesInTime Thu 19-Oct-17 23:40:49

It’s the sort of comment I’d love to say was true for my house.

But sadly not. My house is not always spotless just in case (important person of choice) should knock on the door demanding a cup of tea.

What a load of dick.. I only have 2 kids and I have a husband.... when people knock my door I sometimes hide because of the mess lol!
She is being silly and not living in the real world!

Ummmmgogo Thu 19-Oct-17 23:42:33

tell your 'friend' about that old expression, "tidy house, empty life"!

Fuckoffee Thu 19-Oct-17 23:43:18

Is your friend Mrs Bucket from Keepin Up Appearances? She sounds very stuffy and prim. Not my type of friend at all.

Dozer Thu 19-Oct-17 23:44:01

Wow, you can do without “friends” like her!

Queenofthedrivensnow Thu 19-Oct-17 23:44:14

She just dressed up an insult that's all.

Op I fully sympathise with the limpet baby as dd2 was like that and I am a lone parent x

DJBaggySmallpox Thu 19-Oct-17 23:45:15

Has she been replaced by her Stepford Wife version? Does her husband look shifty?

TalkinBoutWhat Thu 19-Oct-17 23:46:05

She isn`t your friend, she`s your frenemy.

BakedBeans47 Thu 19-Oct-17 23:46:15

What shite

VladmirsPoutine Thu 19-Oct-17 23:49:25

Were you trying to confide in her due to something else and she came up with that gem? You say you have a baby which makes up part of the 4 kids under 7?

Ceto Thu 19-Oct-17 23:57:39

Offer to lend her your children for the weekend and see how spotless her house is after that.

ecuse Fri 20-Oct-17 00:01:55

Wait. You're a single parent with a baby and three other kids? And she's having a dig about tidying? What a massive twat.

Madwoman5 Fri 20-Oct-17 00:03:17

Wow. How is the weather up there on her moral highground?

TestingTestingWonTooFree Fri 20-Oct-17 00:03:37

Ditch her.

Misspollyhadadollie Fri 20-Oct-17 00:04:30

She's always like it tbh when she came to see the baby she said I needed to get carpet on my stairs, I haven't been able to afford it since I moved in.

CotedePablo Fri 20-Oct-17 00:05:08

Remind her of the saying 'dull women have immaculate houses'.

JugglingMummyof2 Fri 20-Oct-17 00:05:57

Does she know that your ex abandoned you when you were pregnant with his child and already had three small children? Come over all Mumsnetty, look her straight in the eye and ask her 'Are you on glue?'

ferriswheel Fri 20-Oct-17 00:07:12

What pp said, she isn't your friend.

AnnieAnoniMouse Fri 20-Oct-17 00:09:08

Why do you bother with her? She sounds like a right cow.

Misspollyhadadollie Fri 20-Oct-17 00:11:43

Don't have many friends tbh. The mutual friends we have were introduced to me by her (though I've known them years now) that's probably why. Baby is awake again, she fell asleep for literally 20 minutes and still have to he up for the school run tomorrow. I explained to her that I'm literally getting hardly any sleep.
