To think this man would not have done this on a plane

Waiting to get on a plane, easyJet. The couple behind us were discussing why people pay for Speedy Boarding. The man said it was because people want to keep their cabin baggage with them. Then he said that he wouldn't pay for Speedy boarding when he is alone, because if he gets on the plane and there is a bag in the locker above his seat he takes it out and leaves it in the aisle so he can put his bag there!

Surely, he was showing off to his partner, no one would do that, would they? Or is this a new low in cuntish behaviour on flights? Is it a thing? I mean, I have seen a lot of awful behaviour on flights, but really, what fresh hell is this?

I hope not but people go beyond cuntish when it comes to public transport I find.... also, if someone said that to me to show off, I’d tell them they were a right arse. What did the partner say?!

SerendipityFelix · 19/10/2017 17:16

Life lesson - some people are just dicks.

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 19/10/2017 17:18

What an odd way to show off: 'Look at me, I'm a bastard!'
I think you're right that this is all mouth. The staff wouldn't have it.

MissCherryCakeyBun · 19/10/2017 17:21

What a twat deserves to get his luggage lost or pinched for such twatish behaviour

Scabetty · 19/10/2017 17:25

Of course he does Hmm I'd have asked him what he would do if confronted as surely owner of case is nearby. Wanker.

Andrewofgg · 19/10/2017 17:26

Show-off and arsehole - now forget him.

thenightsky · 19/10/2017 17:38

Actually what would happen if the last few people really couldn't fit their cabin bags in the lockers? It would be too late for them to go in the hold surely? Genuine question.

loveka · 19/10/2017 17:41

They put them in the hold for free, from the plane.

loveka · 19/10/2017 17:41

They put them in the hold for free, from the plane.

OlennasWimple · 19/10/2017 17:45

They put them in the hold and you pick them up at the door when you get off. Or there is sometimes space in the staff lockers if it's just one small case that a knob has left in the middle of the aisle having taken it out of the locker

Doramaybe · 19/10/2017 17:54

I witnessed one bloke put his wheelie in the overheads side on. There was already another case up there the right way, so mine wouldn't fit. I politely asked him to put his case in the right way, and his answer was, NO, I want to put my overcoat in front of the case, otherwise it will get crushed. I am not making this up!

So I stood there (he was just seated so I saw him do it), and blocked the aisle. There were mumbles and grumbles as you would expect, but I stood my ground. A flight attendant from the back came down to see what the problem was. He promptly put the man's case in the right way, gently placed his precious effin overcoat on top of case, and very kindly hoiked mine up and in.

Lucky said man was in window. I was aisle. Some people, they seem to lose their brains and politeness when on board an aircraft!!

Generally speaking the person will be sitting right below that bit of the locker, and next to him, and will ask them what the fuck he thinks he's doing with their bag.

sonjadog · 19/10/2017 18:02

I think he was just trying to show off. I´ve never seen anyone do anything like this - for one thing all the people coming along behind would fall over the bag he´d just put on the floor, so he wouldn´t get away with it unnoticed. Also, in my experience, passengers watch the locker their bag is in carefully and any sign of anyone moving it, they are up to see what is going on.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/10/2017 18:15

I fly a lot (including budget airlines) and I’ve never seen this. He’d get short fucking shrift off me if he took my bag out of the locker

RavingRoo · 19/10/2017 18:38

It was just showing off. Nobody would ever do that in a plane.

Polarbearflavour · 19/10/2017 18:55

I used to be cabin crew and yes, people used to take our bags to put theirs in the overhead locker!

Cabin crew are pretty on the ball and would be on the lookout for this!

On one flight I had a family dump their bags at the feet of the crew on boarding and walk off to their seats. We made them come back and stow their own bloody bags.

Do not underestimate the stupidity and selfishness of the flying public. I have seen all sorts...

BenLui · 19/10/2017 19:05

I was on a flight earlier this year where the overhead bins were full and there was no room for my bag or that of the man in front of me.

He knocked me out of the way and barged down the plane yelling at the staff the whole way about the lack of space while I followed quietly.

The captain came out took one look at the guy trying to bully his crew, and smiled as he said to me, “no room for your bag madam? Nevermind I have room for one bag in my storage space. Sir, I’m afraid your bag will have to be put in the hold”

It was just awesome. The cabin crew all beamed at the pilot and at me while the other passenger went purple.

MakeItStopNeville · 19/10/2017 19:14

It is super frustrating though, when you get on the plane and you can’t store your bag anywhere near your seat because someone 8 rows ahead of you has put their bag there.

Personally I think if the storage assigned to your seat is full, you should put your bag in the hold instead of nicking the storage further down the plane but I know that’s not the flying norm.

Kannet · 19/10/2017 19:23

I had speedy boarding a few months ago, once speedy boarders where in, families with young kids where invited to board. A family with four kids got on and put their bags in the overhead right by the front then moved down the plane to their seats. I assume it made it easier for them getting off but very tough on the people who had booked those seats. Can’t believe the cabin crew didn’t stop them

HirplesWithHaggis · 19/10/2017 19:25

Aren't you allowed to stow your bags on the floor, under the seat in front of you any more? That's what I always did, I'm too short to put anything in an overhead locker (and to retrieve it on landing). I've only done short domestic flights though.

Arealhumanbeing · 19/10/2017 19:27

Ugh. Showing off how unattractive and cunty he is?

StickThatInYourPipe · 19/10/2017 19:27

Are you sure he wasn't joking about? This is the kind of outrageous thing both me and dp would say to each other by 'out twatting' the other

I’m the same hirples, lots of the wheely cases will be too big to go under the seat though. And as no one want to pay for hold luggage everyone has the biggest case allowed these days.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 19/10/2017 19:31

I was wondering that too Haggis. I've had people offer to put my bag up on the shelf on trains before but I always refuse because then I wouldn't be able to reach it.

OlennasWimple · 19/10/2017 19:39

You can put stuff under seat in front of you (and are often encouraged to, because then it frees up more space in the overheads) but only small stuff fits under there really

People are generally very helpful - despite the twattery often on display amongst the general public - and I've never had a problem getting things up and down from high lockers, and people will always help if stuff slides right to the back and I can't reach it, for example
