Teddy Bears Are Dead!

Long live the reign of the bunny!

Or to put it another way, in the nursery class I'm working in 5 children have cuddly bunnies. I can't remember the last time I saw a child with a teddy. We have them around the room as nursery toys, in books, as pictures on toys, walking past outside, etc, but not as a child's main cuddle toy.

If you have a child with a special toy that they carry everywhere, what is it? Any bears about?

(I'm 40 something and have my lion in a box in my bedroom.)

Ds carries his teddies everywhere - he's 1.5

Booagain · 18/10/2017 19:41

I have teddies... does that count?! My 2 year old has a teddy in bed but carries his fox comforter around mostly! I love a ted, can't beat them.

QforCucumber · 18/10/2017 19:42

We have a proper teddy bear! He's amazing and being cuddled by my 19mo in bed as we speak

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 18/10/2017 19:42

I have 3 primary aged children.
Eldest has a bear.
Middle has a dog.
Youngest doesnt really have a favourite - rotates between 3 bears, 2 dogs and a bunny.

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 18/10/2017 19:43

(I still have my dear old bear)

Chilver · 18/10/2017 19:43

My 5.5yo has so many teddies and they are all played with daily. Most times we leave the house, one gets chosen to come out for the day too.

But admittedly, we call them teddies in the sense they are soft and animals. Not all are bears. We have a lion, a dog, a frog and a zebra and yes, a bunny or two (but not the most played with!) but the former are the firm favourites!

Goldenbug · 18/10/2017 19:43

A fox!?

That's pretty dangerous!

Due to the amount of children that mispronounce that word in an unfortunate way. Grin

I had an elephant 🐘
My sister had a dog.

ILoveMillhousesDad · 18/10/2017 19:45

Dd still sleeps with the teddy she has had since birth. She is nearly 9.

foxessocks · 18/10/2017 19:45

My ds has a proper teddy bear and he does love it but his favourite is his cuddly penguin. My dd has lots of rabbits and all of paw patrol in stuffed form! I think she might have one bear somewhere but certainly not a favourite.

MissWimpyDimple · 18/10/2017 19:46

DD is 11 and although Teddy is now a “house bear” (fear of getting lost or literally disintegrating if handled roughly!) and barely more than a rag, she barely leaves DDs side when at home.

Very definitely a bear!

Though now you say it, I’m not sure I can think of any others with actual bears!

foxessocks · 18/10/2017 19:46

My favourite was a tiny lion. Me and my brother did bothhave proper teddies too though. My mum still has her old teddy.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 18/10/2017 19:47

My dd has a teddy bear that she goes to bed with and would sneak out of the house if I let her🙈 I’m too scared of him getting lost!
I’m 31 and still have my teddy he sits on my dressing table.

TheMasterNotMargarita · 18/10/2017 19:47

My 10 yo loves her special teddy. He's been around for 9 1/2 years, stinks to high heaven, is floppy and well loved.
I think he will be around for a long time.
Teddies will never die!!!!
Long live the teddy!!!

Marmite27 · 18/10/2017 19:48

Our current favourite is all 4 teletubbies.

Before that it was Mouse from the Gruffalo, Marshall from Paw Patrol, Peter Rabbit and Big Nut Brown Hare.

DD appears to like merchandise Smile

onefortheroadplease · 18/10/2017 19:48

Mine have all my old Care Bears 🐻

formerbabe · 18/10/2017 19:48

My dd has a teddy bear who never leaves her side! It's like another member of the family! I go cold just imagining him getting lost!

BernardBlacksHangover · 18/10/2017 19:50

I had a hippo when I was little (he was my main cuddle toy). I also had a baby seal and a lamb who I also remember too well considering how long ago it was. I'm 33 fwiw.

I remember my brother had a lion and my sister had a care bear (granny bear / grandma bear I think).

DD (nearly 3) has a few bears. She doesn't really have a firm favourite, but she has been partial to one or other of her bears in the past. At the moment she likes a tiger (who came to tea), Peter rabbit and a big, fluffy penguin. So yeah, no bears at the moment.

NerrSnerr · 18/10/2017 19:51

My daughter was bought some love teddy bears when born. Of course she 3 her firm favourite since she was about 1 is an Iggle Piggle comforter!

Spudlet · 18/10/2017 19:51

Ds has a flaming menagerie. He likes to scoop up as many as his little arms can hold, pile them on top of me, and dive right on in for a cuddle party. It's unbelievably adorable Grin

He has a polar bear called Pavel, Pirate Bear, and Frankenbear (who is a little wonky because I made him). So teddies are definitely a thing here!

FizzyFeet · 18/10/2017 19:52

I noticed this when I had DD! She's nearly two and her special comforter is a bunny. She does have a couple of teddies but they are outnumbered by bunnies. It's the same on clothing as well - can't remember the last time I saw a babygro or PJs with teddy bears on. I was wondering if it's a subtle gender thing - do girls have bunnies and boys have foxes or jungle animals?

travelmad · 18/10/2017 19:53

DS1 has an old Sooty teddy that belonged to DH when he was a child. He takes it everywhere.

DS2 has a teddy, he's 6.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 18/10/2017 19:55

DS2's favourite is a bear. DS1's is a pony. They also have a build a bear each that they're fond of too, so both have a special bear.

I was all about rabbits. Although there was one bear I was particularly fond of, and now she has a little boy to look after. I'm glad she's still loved Wink

Pinkvoid · 18/10/2017 19:55

Eldest rotates between a penguin, bat and various pokemon stuffed toys.
Middle DC has a fairy
Youngest DC has bears, rabbits, cats.. she’s not fussed.

I had a rabbit called Sophie that my DC now have. It still has a hospital band on it from when I was admitted aged five with food poisoning Grin.
