Tell me I cooked the lasagne

For context DH is an extreme faffer. Especially at dinner time - he will faff making drinks or agonising over which cutlery or condiments to bring to the extent that our baby is sometimes too tired to eat by the time DH actually sits down (now I just feed baby while DH takes 1000000 years to get a drink).
This eve I cba making dinner so pulled a lasagne (I'd made and part cooked a few weeks ago) out of the freezer and left it to defrost for a few hours before putting it in hot oven. It was in there for 45 mins - 40 at least. I'm sure. I checked oven was hot before I put it in and I'm sure it was in there for 40 mins at least.
Took dinner to table. DH faffed for a while getting drinks and the "right number" of olives Hmm. When he came to the table and we started eating both noticed the lasagne was kind of cold- warm but not piping hot. I'm currently pregnant and had one of those days with 1 year old today (you know where you put the milk in the cupboard and try to open the front door with your contactless bank card? No, just me?) so the thought the I may have not turned the heat on crossed my mind. Baby ate the lasagne too and has been really unsettled this eve. I feel like I'm about to throw up every where. Could just be the thought of it not being cooked making me feel sick ( plus I'm still in the sicky stage of pregnancy)?
I know I cooked it. I know I cooked it.
Would it BU to stay up all night puking preemptively? Bork.

It probably hadn't defrosted properly and therefore 40 mins probably wasn't long enough to cook it through.

40 minutes would barely cook a non frozen lasagne properly.

So yes you cooked it, just not for long enough.

Bobbiepin · 18/10/2017 00:19

Agree with PP but I don't think that would make you ill if its a beef lasagne. Any chance it could be morning sickness making you feel rough? I always had it rough in the evenings. Is anyone else feeling nasty?

BrokenBattleDroid · 18/10/2017 00:21

I agree with pastabest, not long enough to cook from frozen.

That said, surely the mince was cooked when you made the meat sauce bit? So it's unlikely to make you ill, probably just the thought of it making you queasy.

MercianQueen · 18/10/2017 00:30

You cooked it. And if you didn't cook it enough - meh. It was frozen before, so hardly germ-ridden. Worst vines to the worst, you'll both feel a little grumbly, but nothing threatening.

You have my utmost sympathy - I'm also married to a faffer. I love him, I really do, but the effort involved to do simple tasks! It's enough to drive a super organised competitive and probably very annoying woman to drink!

MercianQueen · 18/10/2017 00:33

Good Lord, the typos there!

Worst comes to the worst, not vines.

And the super organised bit should have been a pathetic attempt at a strike-through,

Clearly not averse to a dose of the faffing myself Blush

MrsOverTheRoad · 18/10/2017 00:41

Jesus. Don't part cook things like lasagne. Cook and freeze, then defrost Much safer!

cedoren · 18/10/2017 00:42

I thought you weren't meant to part cook things before you freeze them?

Tableforjuan · 18/10/2017 00:42

Frozen lasagna takes forever to cook. Last week I defrosted one in the fridge all day and it still took 2 hours in the oven. ..even then the cheese wasn't bubbling.

CotswoldStrife · 18/10/2017 00:45

I doubt that the cold lasagne was down to faffing on this occasion, I don't think it was defrosted and therefore 40 mins would not be enough to heat it through the middle.

But you noticed it was cold - why did you keep eating?! How part-cooked was it before you froze it?

thiskittenbarks · 18/10/2017 00:51

Yeah I cooked the mince part in the slow cooker for hours and cooked the bechamel too obvs. Then I cooked it in the oven for 20 or 30 mins before freezing it.
Thanks guys.
I'm sure it's fine.
I feel slightly less sick after thinking about that. Im very good at making myself feel sick just by thinking about things.
Will make sure I defrost overnight next time.
The faffing probably isn't even relevant but my hormonal mind seems to decide it is the cause of every issue. "Husband causes food poisoning by faffing for 20 minutes over olives".
Mercian I feel your pain. My DH faffs for so long over making a decision that he often totally misses the boat due to all the faffing. It's especially bad at dinner time (when I'm hormonal AND hangry).

You'll be fine then, you cooked everything already. What you did is no different than if you ate a tin of baked beans cold.

thiskittenbarks · 18/10/2017 00:56

It was much warmer in the middle than on the outside which made me think it was hot though before DH started counting the olives like a mad man and walking round the house last looking for a glass he'd had earlier.
Either way it was cooked (by part cooked I meant everything was cooked but I would have cooked it for longer if I was going to eat it that day so the cheese on top was a bit browner!)

Faffers around food drive me crazy. I have a friend who does this. She once sent her dd and I to the chip shop to get a portion of chips to go with a thrown together lunch , nibbly bits and salads. I was starving so asked to nick a few chips while we waited as I know she is a faffer but she said no.

Three hours later after faffing in the kitchen she then had to reheat the chips which of course tasted nasty. By then I was past the hungry stage anyway and just felt sick so hardly ate.

thiskittenbarks · 18/10/2017 13:01

We all feel fine today. Phew. In fact I felt better as soon as I'd realised (thanks to y'all) that it was thoroughly cooked before anyway. Smile

Struggling to work out how your DH faffing has anything to do with undercooking a lasagne

I don't get it either tbhConfusedGrin

For future reference though it is NOT the same as eating a tin on cold baked beans. Partly warmed through anything is dodgy, re heat thoroughly until piping hot. Or eat it cold, just not partly warmed.

TheViceOfReason · 18/10/2017 14:05

Stop enabling his faffing. Tell him dinner will be ready in 10 minutes. Dish up and you and your child start eating. If he can't get his shit together then it's his own problem if he eats cold food alone.

That's exactly what I do, we'll be ready to start and dh will say "ahhhh, let me get drinks..." so we start. Been together 27 years, nothing's changedHmmGrin

MrTrebus · 18/10/2017 14:12

Oh god I hate faffers but yet my husband is one too. Yesterday he said "shall I make drinks" whilst I was cooking dinners (I fancied something different to him but both quick so I was already multi tasking) I had cooked both dinners and had been chatting with him in the kitchen the whole time, came to dish up and said "did you make the drinks?" His answer? "I'm still doing it" IT WAS SQUASH AND WATER NOT MOJITOS!! massive faffing in the time I'd cooked and dished 2 separate dinners. Sorry OP just had to get that out and glad you're feeling better!!

BertrandRussell · 18/10/2017 14:14

Also, get a probe thermometer. Then you can be sure!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/10/2017 15:21

Or shove a knife in the centre and hold it to your bottom lip,if it's ouchy hot then it's done.

Themometer is better Grin

Next to the pasta maker that took so much time and effort to produce one plate of pasta it would have been easier to walk to Italy? I don't even like pasta!
