I’m being moved from my nice little private office to a large office upstairs which I’ll be sharing with 4 other people.
I’ll have to be nice, polite, make small talk and worst of all hold my farts in all day. Dreading it

Don't hold in the farts. You may get your old office back.

Winosaurus · 17/10/2017 12:40

dressedcrab that is genius

Poor you. I absolutely love having my own room and would hate to have to return to having to listen to other people shouting on the phone, having windows opened on freezing cold days because Pauline loves the fresh air, being pulled into all kinds of dramas that have nothing to do with me etc etc

YANBU

Threenme · 17/10/2017 12:51

I suspect my theory about the company being nice and you never know you might enjoy it will not be welcome hereGrin

Aquamarine1029 · 17/10/2017 12:53

YANBU. I would be as upset as you are. Probably more so. What a blow! Is it set in stone? There's no way to stay where you are?

Winosaurus · 17/10/2017 12:55

Worst part is I’ll be up there with 3 new starters and I’ll be their team leader. So now I have responsibilities too. Dammit

In my last job I had my own office and it was blissful. I moved to different department a year ago and I now share an office with TEN people, plus I sit next to the visitor's window Sad

Winosaurus · 17/10/2017 13:05

amused sounds hellish

I worked in a call centre years ago and people annoyed me. The woman on the desk next to me spoke so loud on the phone that the whole office could hear and 1 customer on the phone to me said he couldn't hear anything I was saying due to the "background noise" 🤣. I w Ups have been happier on my own

MrsOverTheRoad · 17/10/2017 13:17

That's not a downer! It's a promotion! Deal with it OP...the only way is up!

You'll be their grumpy, anti-social, farting boss! What joy! Grin

isambardo · 17/10/2017 13:19

My work changed premises and now is all open plan. Gutted!

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 17/10/2017 13:19

Don’t you worry about people walking into your fart cloud knowing that it could only have been you? At least sharing an office it could’ve been someone else!

Winosaurus · 17/10/2017 13:20

Mrs no it’s not a promotion... no more money, much less privacy

OP posts:
mishfish · 17/10/2017 13:20

Make sure to make everyone the shittest cuppa possible so they know not to accept any polite offers in future too

Winosaurus · 17/10/2017 13:21

Jennifer no my window is always open and no one really comes in. I love letting one rip

OP posts:
VioletCharlotte · 17/10/2017 13:23

I wouldn't like to work in my own all day every day. Now and again it's nice if I want to concentrate on something, but generally I prefer to be with other people.

I work in a big open plan office, and yes, sometimes people are annoying. But generally I enjoy the chance to bounce ideas off people and talk things through.

This is why my mum keeps a can of air freshener in her desk Grin

coddiwomple · 17/10/2017 13:36

Oh, no, that's terrible news.

At least as the team leader, you chose your desk, and can make sure your screen(s) stay private. You don't want people to peep on your MN posts all day

GrumpyMcGrumpFace · 17/10/2017 13:39

Flowers OP

that's just to get rid of the smell of rotten farts Grin

My DH was moved to an office and swore blind that EVERY time he let one off, someone walked in. He said that it was like there was a red light outside his door that went on when he passed wind.

His colleagues were all very glad when the office went back to open-plan Grin

You have my sympathies OP. in our old building I had an office and now am in a room with 7 others. I loathe it - much as I like them!

JaneEyre70 · 17/10/2017 13:57

My DD has just got her next level apprenticeship working in an office with 5 other women. Apparently one eats her bag of crisps every morning at 9am, stinking the place out and making the worst noise imaginable. Another insists on having the window open all year round, and a fan going so you have to weight everything down on your desk. DD wears so many layers she can barely move. And someone is on the "egg" diet so has a salad with hard boiled eggs every lunchtime. Someone was so worried about the smell the other day that they got maintenance in to check the drains Grin Grin.

viques · 17/10/2017 13:58

I loved having my own room/office! I actually ended up with the best room in the building because it had an amazing view over a lovely wild park, I used to watch the changing seasons, see herons flying by, skeins of geese etc . I could retreat at lunchtime if I felt anti social, or invite colleagues in for -gossip- confidential discussions. No one ever walked off with my stapler or my hole punch. The only downside was that I had to walk down the corridor to the printer if I needed to print anything off.
