AIBU?

To think me exercising now won't make any difference to how I look in two weeks time?

I go on holiday in 2.5 weeks. Dubai, Bangkok and Vietnam for two weeks.

I have a gym membership which for various reasons, I've not used as much as I intended to recently.

I have booked shit loads of classes (body attack, body combat, Pilates etc) for the next two weeks but to be honest, the motivation isn't there because I feel that exercising now won't make any difference to my appearance in two weeks!

I'm already at target weight so the issue now is just toning up but in two weeks, I'll be away from the gym for two weeks anyway so any progress will just be consumed in rice and pad Thai!!

AIBU to just sack it off and start a new regime when I get back?

I think it would. The 30 day shred used to do wonders for me only after a few days!

It might make a difference to how you feel?
I always think it’s better to exercise than not TBH.
I feel more confident, better about myself if I’ve done regular exercise which I’d like if I were about to go on a holiday.

But you’re right, without extreme dieting I doubt it would make much difference to your physical appearance.

It will make a difference as long as you stick with it and push yourself hard at every class.

I can't really afford to lose anymore weight, I'm already looking a bit frail which wasn't my intention.

I'm 5ft 10in and weigh 9st 12lbs. I have loads of wobbly bits where I need to tone up but from a side, I look starved so really don't want to lose anymore weight. My focus now is on toning and strength.

It will make a physical difference, however slight but probably enough for you to notice! But as a pp said, the most important thing is how it will make you feel. 2 weeks is definitely enough to give you more energy, put you in a better mood, give you clearer skin and eyes, help you sleep better... the benefits are endless. I would still go!

You can definitely tone up flabby arms in a few sessions.

Hmm, cardio heavy classes are probably the wrong thing for you if you don't want to lose any weight anyway. I'd look into more resistance training, get lifting some weights to build some muscle.

I think you can make a difference in 2 weeks, and you will most certainly make a difference to how you feel mentally and physically and probably feel more confident and hold yourself better as a result.

You're not giving me the excuses I was looking for guys 😂

Ok so what I have booked is ...

Tonight - body combat
Tomorrow - karate
Friday - body combat and swimming
Saturday - body attack and swimming
Sunday - Pilates

Same again next week. Would this regime be enough to tone my flabby bits in two weeks?

It will give you energy gor all the travelling, sightseeing and night life so worth doing. Maybe 3 classes a week. No need to overdo it as you need to build fittness up gradually.
My ds is just home from those countries a stone lighter from all the going. And he was very thin heading out.

Going against the grain here I think! Those classes aren't going to change the way you look in two weeks. There is no such thing as toning and if you want to build muscle then it's going to take longer than a couple of weeks and you'd have to be lifting heavy. The best you can do to make you look leaner now is get a spray tan and not eat anything that bloats you, maybe less salt to relieve any water retention.

Not sure that you should bunk off your classes though as they are good for your health and fitness.

I would to it, I also agree that mentally you feel so much better and fitter after a couple of days.

The word 'toning' bugs me. What even is it?

If you mean 'increasing muscle mass) then no, unless you're on some kind of very intensive programme, I don't think what you do in 2 weeks can make a visible difference.

Are there any bodypump classes? Every other day for 2 weeks of that class would make a massive difference to any wobBly bits. Use decent size weights.

I think you need to do more weights work if you want to tone up rather than focusing on the cardio. For instance, can you do a Body Pump class? free weights on the gym floor?
You have to be realistic about what can be achieved in 2 weeks, but you can certainly benefit from the exercise and set yourself up to carry on when you get home.
Good luck.

I don't think that regime will help in that time frame. Weight training with a personal trainer should have an effect.

You'll probably stand taller and hold yourself better after a few of those classes, so likely you'll look slimmer. Also you'll be stronger and fitter so will probably feel better on holiday and get more out of it. I usually go into slug/pig/sloth mode through October to February and hit the gym once I spot the first signs of spring. It never fails to delight me how quickly my fitness levels rise again.

If you overdo it and hurt yourself it will just put you off exercise more. Do the things you enjoy most and fit with your health and fitness goals. I find exercise brilliant for mental health and energy levels: any effects on my looks are secondary.

yeah... you were making excuses. If nothing else, you could get some value for money out of that membership over the next 2 months. That alone is worth having.

Nah, I completely disagree (and I do BP 3x per week). You can't start using 'decent size weights' within the first two weeks; you need to build up. And 2 weeks isn't long enough for a visible difference.

It may not make a huge visible difference but I’m sure it will make you feel better. Not, oh I’m making an effort, kind of better, but the benefits of the brain chemicals you get from excersise.

Agree with whoever mentioned body pump. A lot of the classes you have are quite cardio based and if you don’t want to lose weight then they won’t help. You need to concentrate on lifting weights and I do think you will notice the difference if you do 3 body pump classes a week for 2 weeks.

You need weights not cardio

It won't be some kind of incredible transformation, but yes, if you're already at your goal weight, 2 weeks of the right exercise could make a noticeable difference.

Given you're not looking to lose more weight, I'd skip the cardio and head to the free weights area.

It took me months to get rid of my bingo wings. I do three gym sessions a week plus a swim. I think you should start as you will still feel the benefit.

The classes won't help much with toning you need to be lifting weights to gain muscle
