Didn't know where to post. Ordered a curry (chicken tikka masala) from my usual take out. Went to open it and got the biggest whiff of SHIT ever the curry absolutely reeks it has never smelt the way it does. I rang restaurant who first tried sending a replacement of course I didn't accept as the chicken must be bad or rat drippings or something I am thinking, so requested refund half hour ago, rung back and they said 30 to 4 minutes for driver to get here as busy. Do you think they will bring refund, I am not convinced, do they have to refund? What are my rights

I would be saving it to take to environmental health for testing.

Should I do this even if they bring refund?

It depends on their policy. If they demand the curry before handing you a full refund. Alternatively, you could maybe skimm sufficient amount of meat, veg and gravy enough sample for EH to do testing if you're going that route.

They don't have to refund, that is a good will gesture.

The curry definitely needs checking out.

I see if they don't bring a refund I am going to go and take the curry to restraint and have them smell it as I doubt with the attitude the man gave me a refund is coming although he said they would be.

Oh grim. Don't google takeaways that have been shut down for various reasons....

Keep the food and contact environmental health.

Yes you should get full refund (Waitrose gave me 2x food value and a replacement item when I opened a pack of fresh pasta and it was covered in black fur).

No they don't have to refund
Take it for testing at environmental health at the local council

Driver just been with the refund! I think if I wasn't a regular customer a refund would not of been given! Never will I go there again! He also asked for the food! So they must know something was dodgy, should of took some out now as it was vile I can still smell it now. God needs shutting down serving food like that. Also the tub was larger than normal maybe tried getting rid of a bad batchConfused

Definitely get it checked out. In the meantime, have you looked the place up on the Food Hygiene Ratings website? I always check that out whether I'm eating out somewhere or getting a takeaway. Here's the link ratings.food.gov.uk/. Obviously regardless of the rating on that site, you should get that curry tested.

P.S. I'm so glad I remembered to preview this reply before posting it, as it turns out I'd typed Foof Hygiene Ratings originally. Blush

@badcurry you should keep a sample of the shit curry and report to your local council - send it to them. They take this shit v seriously - honestly. I used to work for someone who ran restaurants in London and it's no joke.
My mum found a plaster in her curry from local takeout once. Never again. I don't trust the hygiene at a lot of them.

Oh, that's a shame you gave it back to him.

Omg that's disgusting. What had they done to it?!! That they knew and asked for it back. Uuuuurgh stomach churning.

Just checked the rating on the site and it was 3? Not sure if that's good. TBH glad the curry was taken as i can still smell it😷😷

Hope you don't get food poisoning!!! If you do - gross as it sounds, keep a sample at that time. Environmental health test fecal samples often in these situations. Could be something seriously toxic they put in there.

I had the tiniest bit on a chip just to see didn't taste funky was just the smell but I couldn't eat it like that. Worrying as I'm 37 weeks pregnant too! Imagine if I had a cold and couldn't smell or something Hmm disgusting.

Bluerosethorns I assumed no one actually ate any, if it smelled that bad.

Thank you. Just in shock I can't believe it would be served like that. At first I was thinking it was extra spices or something smelling like that but definitely not. X

You can still report them to the FSA and leave a bad review online

If you bought through just eat etc complain and let them know too. They might give you a voucher so you can buy dinner elsewhere tonight

A rating of 3 is shit, should be a 5 no excuses.

You can still relate this to your local Environmental Health department, and suggest an inspection is done. They respond to reports like that, or at least, they used to and it would make no sense if they don't continue to act on such reports.
