AIBU?

Did this person invite themselves to a wedding?

So, person A received an invite to a family wedding. Person A mentions this to person B who claims to not have been invited. Another family member has also been invited, let's call them C. A week later, B assumes that a mistake has been made so uses the code on C's invite to RSVP on their wedding website.

Was B being a cheeky fucker?

Yes. No invite = not invited.

Yes B was a CF and if pulling this kind of stunt is typical of them I can see why they weren't invited.

Yes! That's so fucking weird. Also presumably cohabiting family members to give acces to invitation with code?

A code on a wedding website to RSVP? Wow it's all changed since I got married!
But yes, cheeky. You can't just assume a mistake has been made!

Do the bride/groom know that B has responded in place of C? Is C intending to go?

Sounds extraordinarily cheeky

B is taking the piss. They didn’t get an invitation so they weren’t invited.

If B thought it was an error they should have politely clarified with bride and groom not unilaterally decided to RSVP to an event they had not received an invitation to.

Sound like some intriguing cheeky fuckery going on. What's the full story then?

Wow! What a bizarre thing to do Hmm

Has the wedding already happened? Surely if B used C's code then all they have done is confirm that C will be attending.

B is parent of A and C and doesn't have cf tendencies thus far. Although I suspect both C and B have Asperger's so they might not have realised it's inappropriate.

C can still rsvp for themselves because you have to type your name in.

I don't know what the bride and groom think, maybe it was a mistake!

Wedding isn't until next summer so this is going to be a slow burner!

Whaaaaat??? That is extreme cf behaviour! You should tip off the bride and groom. Would you have expected the mum to be invited?

*or dad

How will C be able to confirm twice? Surely the system will flag up that the code has already been used and won't allow a double confirmation. Otherwise what is the point of a code? Confused

I've never heard of a code to RSVP by - how does that even work? Confused

Has your mum/dad had a falling out with parents of the B&G?

TheAntiBoop · 15/10/2017 19:24

I assume it's a code to log on to the wedding website - not a code specific to the invitee

Are the parents closely related to B or G? I can imagine it would be a bit odd to invite cousins but not aunt and uncle unless there's more to the story

Ahh, yes that makes more sense antiboop!

It's more like a password and then you type your name and the no of people you are rsvp ing for.

Given A and C were invited, it's weird that B wasn't invited TBH. Groom is related to them all and was invited to A's wedding, along with groom's parents and brother.

Yes B is a CF. Either person A or C needs to let bride or groom know (whichever they are related / closest to) what has happened and then deal with CF accordingly.

B is aunt by marriage to groom. We aren't particularly close though. But also the family isn't huge.
