17 year old girl walking home sexually assaulted by multiple, unconnected men

An absolutely horrendous case in which a 17 year old girl trying to get home on a night out was subject to multiple serious sexual assaults it seems by men completely unconnected to one another. What does this say about society, that different men in a small geographical location within the space of an hour all had such contempt for women and girls they chose to commit these abhorrent attacks on her? It's hideous. I don't usually start threads in this section of the board but I feel so enraged by these attacks and feel more should be aware of this misogyny.

Horrendous. I don't even know what to say really.

It's tragic and I'm quite lost for words.

Did you see that show 'no more boys and girls' and the clear outcome of teaching sex equality to these small kids was a reduction in aggression in the classroom. Anecdotally, mothers were reporting more kindness and gentleness in the home towards boy's sisters than before.

That says it all. Boys as young as 4-5 are being taught to treat girls with aggression and as an inferior group. No matter how 'nice' the family, everyone is breeding boys that with only a few drinks in them (or none at all even) will slap a girls arse in a bar. Or far worse. 'Nice' 'normal' guys. Trained to assault and think nothing of it.

I'm the same U2 and know in a way there's not a huge amount to say, I'm just enraged. I can't begin to imagine how she feel and am so angry there's so much misogyny in society that this many men, unconnected with one another, chose to do this to a vulnerable girl. How many men have such contempt for women and girls they'd do this if all these men within such a small area in a small time frame all have enough to do this?

I did see that KarateKitten and wish the changes the doctor implemented at that school would be rolled out across the country (and beyond), it made such a positive impact on them all.

This story is horrendous.

To think 3 separate men could do this makes me sick.

This also happened recently in Birmingham. One young woman and a number of unconnected men.

Indeed passmethewineplease. I'm always upset by any such attack but this to me really emphasises how many men out there have such violent misogynist views of women and girls. Three separate men (actually possibly more as the final man it seems was part of a group), unconnected with one another, in a very small area within a small time frame, all chose to do this. How many more out there would, given that?

YANBU

My child's friends have started at various mixed secondaries and the stories are mind blowing, ranging from boys being merely disruptive and annoying in class in the most highly regarded school, to calling Y7 girls "names" some kids have never heard before..

I love boys and men, but something has gone wrong somewhere along the line. I don't know what has caused it.

I do think it's a small minority of men though.

I read this a minute ago and actually came on looking for a thread on it.

I too have absolutely no fucking words for how I feel about this.
It's so, so depressing, sick and makes me literally incandescent with fucking rage.

What the actual fuck is wrong with men?
And I'm not even gonna say NAMALT because every single day convinces me that the vast, vast majority of men are fucked up, misogynistic, conttrolling, abusive cunts of the highest order.

That poor woman.

Funnily enough I'm becoming more convinced its the exact opposite of that.

That so many men would choose to do this to a vulnerable girl speaks volumes, and it's not the only instance. There were the separate rapes on the 15 year old girl in Birmingham as has been mentioned in this thread, the girl assaulted on a train before moving seats to get away from the man only for the man she sat next to to proceed to do the same.

In this case, all these attackers, within an hour. Unconnected men all choosing to do this. This shows how much misogyny is out there and how so many men and boys see women and girls. Complete contempt for us and disregard for us as human beings, we exist only to degrade and assault.

I'm not so sure some days anymore.

We can all agree though that it is far too many men.

Me too. I have some amazing men in my life so I hate thinking that way, but I do.

And that's without even mentioning all the constant attacks on women and girls for no other reason than their being female, such as the 14 year old girl raped in Greenwich last month and the 15 year old girls sexually assaulted by entirely different men in Twickenham earlier in the year.

I don't feel I or anyone else should have to qualify that we have men we love. I'm very close to my dad and brothers, have good male friends but attacks like this show it is far too many men and given all these men chose to attack her as I said in a very small area, within an hour, separate to one another, this suggests it's quite a number of them.

Me too U2.

My Dad, brother, DP etc are all lovely, but I'm not so blind as to think they are perfect, they can occasionally demonstrate a bit of thoughtless misogyny too, I do pull them up though.

And I'm not naive enough to think that my tiny example of men can extrapolate to the wider population, epecially since all evidence points to most men being absolute arseholes.

Report
NoLoveofMine · 13/10/2017 10:42

I also fear the chances of these abhorrent men being caught are extremely low.

The grotesque behaviour by some men is nothing new. What has changed is that it is being talked about more openly. Younger women are more inclined to speak up than in the past.
