AIBU?

To think friend was being a bit tight over internet password

Name changed as I'm an over sharer.
Anyway I had some issues with paying my internet account recently basically direct debit hadn't come out and I'd been cut off long story!

I was stuck at home on my own with the kids, my older dc was going on and on and on about internet being cut off stress. I thought I'll ring up and pay to get it back on etc but realised I couldn't transfer the money as no internet! My phone internet wouldn't work either.
I thought shit, I messaged my friend who lives close and I'm a round about way asked her if I could borrow her internet password to get things sorted,
Her reply was "sorry I don't want to give it out" now we've been friends for over 4 years have each other kids do stuff etc etc so I was quite shocked at her response. It's basically saying she doesn't trust me isn't it?
Yes the internet being back on wasn't urgent but I still needed it back on ASAP. I wouldn't have given a second thought to giving a "friend" the password so aibu to think she isn't really a friend as she didn't help me out when I was in the shit?

So you wanted to go to her house and use her WiFi and she wouldn’t let you? Weird!

Why couldn't you go round and use her computer to make the transaction (or phone to do it)?

I don't blame your friend- giving out passwords is not a good idea.

She may have the same password for everything.

I kind of understand.

Please write your first thoughts to this Question.
can I have your internet password, the one that also belongs to your private emails from this company....

YABU

Not giving you internet password doesn't mean she's not your friend. You're not entitled to her internet, you asked a favour and she said no

No, you are so cheeky for asking. Once you have the password, there is no need for you to pay yours going forward. Go to Maccies or something and use free WiFi.

Maybe she has private stuff she doesnt want you to have access to.

Never a good idea to share passwords for all sorts of reasons. I'd have asked if I could pop round and borrow her computer for 10mins to make the transfer.

She didn’t want you to have her password so she was quite right to say no. I wouldn’t give my password to anyone either - how was she to know that you weren’t going to be logging on constantly, etc, etc.

Could you not have phoned the internet company and given your debit card details and paid the bill that way.

From what I’m reading I suspect I’ll wanted to get internet access for your kids for the afternoon free of charge.

Reading between the lines here. Your internet has been cut off due to non payment? And you are also having problems with mobile internet, is this due to payment issues too?

Does your friend maybe think you are a taker of the piss and hence doesn’t want you to latch on?

Our WiFi password is the password DP and I use for a lot of things, so I don’t give it out. I do however put it in for family/close friends when they’re over so they can access it, but never actually give it out.

If someone I knew hadn't paid their internet bill and then asked me for my password so they could use my internet instead, I wouldn't give it out. I'd be worried that you'd continue to use my internet instead of paying your own bill. Why didn't you go to somewhere with free wifi instead? There are plenty of places that offer it.

That's really weird. Every time someone e cones to my house I offer them the internet password of they are staying overnight/seem like they would want to use internet for sone reason.

And that's my point she didn't trust me obviously? My internet is tv etc too so no need to even think about using hers for good I wouldn't anyway!

And the non payment was because the direct debit didn't come out of a seperate account. My phone is on contract but the signal is bad here so couldn't get onto the internet! Jeez I pay my bills this was just a fuck up.
