To cut this person out of my life

I have a long standing friend who I'm close to, but not best friends.
She has sometimes looked down her nose at us as her family were from a better area and they had more money than us.
However we were part of a group and she was ok most of the time.
Last year she changed her job and it was all a bit sudden. She got a new one, but it was not as senior and less money.
Still seemed to have lavish lifestyle.
Anyway, it turns out she has been embezzling money! Lots of money.
She didn't leave her job she was sacked.
She has just been up in court and plead guilty. She may go to jail.
We are shocked as we have been friends and have been socialising with them through this last year.
She has still been horrible sometimes during this last year.
Some friends outside our group don't believe we didn't know. I can't believe her and her DH just carried on as normal through this whole time.
Our group have decided if she goes to jail we will all help out her DH and kids.
But I just want to cut ties. I'm disgusted with her actions and more so with her attitude.
Would it be heartless to just cut all ties?

I'm with you but because she's horrid is reason enough for me, never mind her being a thief.

I don't blame you, cut her out, you don't have to help out financially either, you have your own family to look after.

Her being not nice is reason enough to cut ties.

The fact that she’s a thief is just extra reason.

I feel sorry for her kids, but her DH presumably knew & didn't stop her so I'd be loathe to help him out. And I'd not want to give a toss about her.

Her DH wouldnt neccessarily know. There are enough threads on here where one partner has no idea what the other partner earns or spends.

Personally, I'm not altruistic enough to be bailing out anyone elses family I'm afraid.

Thanks so much for your replies.
I feel torn about feeling awful for the kids and wanting to distance myself from her.
She has proved just how horrible she is.

You can't have this person as a friend if she's horrible. Life is too precious to waste on horrible people.
The embezzlement is kind of her business but even if she were great, I'd never trust a person who committed such a crime again.
