Scrolling on my way too small phone, l accidentally requested someone l'd prefer not to,
Cancelled immediately- however apparently they will still get a notification?
I don't want to hurt this persons feelings-
Can anyone reassure me, my stupid fat finger mistake will stay private?
Thanks all.

Why don't you just block them now just to make sure?

On my Samsung I get FB friend requests as a notification on my phone as well as FB so the FB request will dissappear but it says as a notification on my phone.

If they query it, depending on your relationship simply say one of two things:

I use FB for work only or family only. Which ever category this person doesnt fall into!

withlotsoflove Wed 11-Oct-17 11:50:36

Oh no!
They are a delicate personality! That unfortunately lives on their phone!grin
I work with this person- l couldn't block as that'd look weird.
Thank you.

Paddy, does the notification say who it came from/ why?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 Wed 11-Oct-17 11:57:37

They will still get the notification message that a friend request went through, and who it was from. Only when they click the actual link you won't be there anymore.

I think l better request her then- l have no idea how to get out of it now!

If they ever ask, play dumb.
If you end up having to accept them just put then on restricted view smile

This person is so tech savvy!
They'll know...

If it’s a work colleague could you maybe say that you hit the friend request by accident but you don’t have work mates on Facebook?

SandyDenny Wed 11-Oct-17 12:52:46

Let them be your friend but block them from seeing your posts.

PaddysMarket Wed 11-Oct-17 12:55:14

withlots On my phone the notification will say "withlots has sent you a friend request" and if I log on to fb and it's not there I would assume you were snooping and accidentally hit the button.

withlotsoflove Wed 11-Oct-17 12:58:30

Oh no!
Definitely no snooping.
Scrolling in the 'friends you might know' bit.
We *are friends so l guess it will just have to sort itself out.

Mxyzptlk Wed 11-Oct-17 13:00:44

Will the person actually be upset if you just tell the truth about scrolling and how you automatically cancelled the request as you didn't mean to do it?

After all, presumably they were quite happy about not being your FB friend before that.

Tainbri Wed 11-Oct-17 13:01:01

I have one or two "friends" who through diplomatic reasons have to be there, but through security settings they're on a list that when I post anything it's to "friends except xyz" so they don't get to see my posts/photos etc. They just think I never use Facebook wink

MissCalamity Wed 11-Oct-17 13:04:54

I wish FB had a "Do you wish to send John Smith a friend request" if you've accidentally hit that button, like they do when you delete friends, would save a lot of embarrassment shock

withlotsoflove Wed 11-Oct-17 13:07:41

Yes, the person will be upset about the whole situation...
All my fault.grin
They were happy previously but it would have been quite natural for me to have requested them.
I honestly thought it wouldn't show, one of my children said it would and l doubted them...
thank you all.

withlotsoflove Wed 11-Oct-17 13:08:25

Oh Miss, how l wish it did too...
<< cries>>

If you feel you have to be friends with them you could just add them to Restricted & that way they'll only see posts that you make public.

WalkingInMyShoes Wed 11-Oct-17 13:10:54

I did this to a work colleague I fancy. Cancelled it imediately but still cringe when I see him because he knew blush

Natsku Wed 11-Oct-17 13:13:16

Now this explains why a couple of times I've had a friend request notification come up on my phone but there isn't a friend request when I actually check facebook. Had me confused when its happened!

withlotsoflove Wed 11-Oct-17 13:17:46

Wish it would just say there was a notification without saying who requested them.
This is all so silly - but they are fragile and l don't want to upset them.
And... they will go on and on and on

Say nothing until they ask you about it, if they ask you about it.
