I've been ill all evening. Headache, stomach cramps etc. Have they advertised this change? Have they fuck.

So, if like me you're allergic to the stuff and think lucozade is on your safe list, it isn't.
Bastards.

I avoid everything with aspartame. The stomach cramps it give me is unbearable. Thankfully I don't drink Lucozade. Good luck finding a new energy drink ☺

Tbh I tend to just drink juice or water, but spotted a bottle this morning and fancied it.
If it's something I've had before and know I'm safe with I don't tend to read the label again. Lesson learned now though. I just wish they would advertiser the fact that it's a new recipe to prompt people to check 😢

They've bloody ruined the taste of it, I know that.

I don't like many fizzy drinks but Lucozade original used to be my favourite, if I fancied one. Then a couple of months ago, I realised the taste changed and it's got that awful 'diet' drink taste to it that strangles your tonsils.

Fuckers Angry

Yep DS was complaining about this today as well

Do you know that's funny because we got one the other day and dh commented that it tasted different and when I looked at the ingredients the aspartame caught my eye as I do normally try and avoid it. Funny how they've slipped it in there and not mentioned it...Hmm

I've been sipping it all afternoon in small amounts (fizzy pop is a luxury for me after I gave it up so I savour it) just had a bigger mouthful and realised it didn't taste right then put two and two together.

Not had it for about twelve months, bastards took fanta away from me as well. I thought there was a move away from aspartame towards natural sweetner like stevia but clearly lucozade didn't get that memo. Fuckers indeed worra.

I found this out the hard way a couple of months ago Sad

The odd shop still sell the original ‘full sugar’ recipe but it’s hard to find.

I think Coca Cola are changing their recipe. I hardly ever drink it but I notice the sweetness seems to taste increasingly artificially sweet and less sugar sweet, if you see what I mean. The ingredients make no reference to anything artificial though, so I must be wrong Confused

Of course this will also affect diabetics who use lucozade to treat hypos.

Thanks for the warning. I only usually have this when I'm feeling unwell - sounds like it would now make me worse!

Lucozade isn’t what it used to be. The fizzy orange one is disgusting now. Noticed it had changed a couple of months ago and thought it was a bad batch at first but nope.

Could it be to do with the whole sugar tax thing I wonder.

We use it often in the ward I work in when cleaning patients mouths as there was something in the original
Recipe which aided natural health in the mouth... there were notices put up to tell us that the recipe has changed and not to use it anymore. It is also a shame as many diabetics use it as a failsafe for hypos.

If you ever need to take a Lemsip type drink then Boots own brand blackcurrant flavour contains no artificial sweeteners.

You're not wrong, cliffdiver! I've noticed this too - ingredients list looks the same but the taste of Coke is definitely more artificial. Thought it was just me Confused

Surely they're not allowed to put artificial sweeteners in without stating it on the packaging?!

n0ne - But they have put it on the packaging - along with every other ingredient.

No wonder, the new taste tastes awful. Why did they do this ?

I knew I wasn’t imagining it tasting different. Sob. Bastards.

Is it the original Lucozade or the Sport? (Sorry, not read the whole thread!)

I didn’t realise there was caffeine in Lucozade until the other day either...

Aspartame tastes foul, why did manufacturers move away from saccharine for the low sugar version?

Report
SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 11/10/2017 10:23

I've not had it for a while, so not fallen foul of it but the whole blooming purpose of the drink is that it's an ENERGY drink, and therefore contained GLUCOSE for quick release energy. What's the bloody point in whanging in a load of disgusting artificial sweetener into it???

Aspartame makes me headachey. Other sweeteners just taste grim for hours afterwards. I'm getting increasingly irritated at this nannying of sugar (or penny pinching). I know that excessive sugar is not healthy. I maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. I generally consume sugar in a fairly moderate way, and usually when I consume something like that, it is mindfully done with some purpose. If I want sugar free, I know where the water tap is rather than kidding myself with unnecessary, unpleasant artificial ingredients. I now can't buy fruit squash in Aldi or Lidl. Vimto has been ruined too. Drench now tastes of fragranced soap. I just want a clear choice to continue consuming sugars.

I'm currently pregnant and been watching what I drink/eat.
I had a huge craving for a cold fizzy orange lucozade the other day so I ended up nipping to the vending machine at work and picking one up.
My disappointment when I tasted the new version (without expecting it of course because they must think we won't notice) is hard to describe Sad I just wanted some sugar GODDAMIT.

This is the orange bottle Lucozade energy @NooNooHead though I think the whole range has changed.

With not drinking anything fizzy for so long everything tastes a bit different if that makes sense, so I wouldn't have noticed it on first mouthful.

Anyway, my headache has now cleared, stomach ok and I've now added Lucozade to my ban list. Gutted really, I know it generally doesn't help you get better, but it's a comfort thing when you feel crap isn't it?

They changed it on 1st August, all acrosd the range, slashed the sugar content from 15g per 100ml to 8. Pain in the ass as it was the go to drink for my boy when he hypo's (type 1 diabetic) though stock piled before it changed so have a shed full Grin

I think it was to escape the sugar tax.

This change was very well publicised because of the potential problems for diabetics. Granted, it wasn't publicised by lucozade, but it was in the news and all over social media.

GhostsInSnow · 21/10/2017 11:19

@QCaitlin18 done.

I'm still surprised by the shift towards aspartame as I thought that stevia was the route most big brands were taking now, especially as Stevia isn't so obviously a chemical taste.
