AIBU?

To be annoyed at this text from my personal trainer?

I had to have minor surgery just over a week ago and the hospital told me before and after that I cannot exercise (including gym, swimming and most annoying sex) for 4 weeks after this.

I made my PT aware that I wouldnt be able to come to the gym until the end of this month. He has text me today asking if I will be in class tomorrow. I said no and reminded him of the ban and responded saying "lets hope you dont put weight on"

AIBU to be a bit pissed by his response? Im sure there was no malice but surely there's a better response? And Im not actively looking to nor do I need to lose weight.

I'd be very pissed off. Not exactly motivating is it?! Cheeky twat.

I would find a new personal trainer.

That's not motivating at all really. I would also find another PT.

I think that's horribly unsupportive, what a twat. I'd be looking for a new personal trainer ......

No you wouldn't be U. He sounds like an arse who is more concerned with the fact that he won't be making any money from you for 4 weeks, rather than how you're actually doing.

That's a really odd text for a personal trainer to send and would make me question whether he actually had my interests at heart or was more bothered about just taking my money.

Twat. Next!

I would think with that response he's lost a client. I wouldn't spend time with anyone who is not supportive to the fact you've just had surgery and need rest. One thing being motivational another for being so darn right rude.

Absolutely not U. I'm guessing you had something similar to what I had a couple of months ago after a dodgy smear and I felt really upset about how much it buggered up my routine for the month. It really affected me and if I'd had that text off a PT I would have gone ape shit. Yanbu

Not cool. Bin him and find another one!

Yanbu

If you're seeing him for weight loss then a suggestion of how to stay on track would be reasonable. But not such a rude and unhelpful remark.

Find another trainer when you're able to exercise again, then take great delight in telling that shitwit why you've done so.

BlackPepperCrab · 10/10/2017 18:34

My mates and I frequently banter about each other's appearances, quirks, personalities etc and what's normal amongst us wouldn't go well with outsiders. Isolated, I'd say it really depends, but if you're annoyed by it, then I think YANBU because that's clearly not the kind of relationship you two have.

Yanbu, I'd be getting a new PT.

SelmaAndJubjub · 10/10/2017 18:40

I hope you replied with “If I do, my new PT will sort it”.

Report
Doramaybe · 10/10/2017 18:52

I hope you get better soon after the procedure.

The rest of your post is ridiculously first world problem territory.

Report
Whocansay · 10/10/2017 18:54

Find a new one. That remark was ignorant, unkind and unnecessary.

Sorry Dora, I hadn't realised that we were only allowed to use AIBU for cases of war and famine.

What a twat. Like that's the most important thing. That would put me right off. If I had a personal trainer, which I don't because secretly I fear they are probably judgmental, obsessional twats..

When you train with your PT are you very weight focused? Have/do you state that a goal is weight control/loss? If so it would make a bit more sense in context to a tong and cheek response based on the focus of your training. I think its just aimed as banter. I assume base on the relaxed, familiar and jovial rapport they assume they have with you.

But any professional should know the dangers of our egg shell society so should be careful however good rapport they thing they have with a client. Also from a business point of view should be so careful not to do anything to upset the customer. Especially because offence and perceiving offence is a widespread obsession for many (that's not aimed at you OP, just the way society is)

Have you replied? I'm thinking that a really passive snarky reply would make you feel better like 'oh, I was so worried about the way that I look that I nearly didn't go through with the surgery but then I thought that you know, being alive is more important than avoiding a tiny bit of weight gain :p'

Report
1DAD2KIDS · 10/10/2017 19:10

But you should raise the issue with them if you indeed to keep them to avoid this unpleasantness again. Your the customer as the end of the day.

1DAD. Was there some kind of message in there? Some kind of hobbyhorse? I didn't quite catch what you mean?
