Pains in the night

CosyFires · 08/10/2017 04:36

I've been waking up in the middle of the night with bad pains in the top of my adomen and middle back. Tonight has been the worse. The pain in my adomen is just below where you'd do chest compressions and it's agony. It feels like I'm constantly sucking in and my abdomen is being stretched when it isn't.

Can anyone give any suggestion as to what it might be?

Sorry, but you shouldn't be asking random strangers on the internet about something which could be a serious condition. Check it out with your doctor, please.

Sounds like heartburn/allergic reaction.

I thought I would ask as it's the middle of the night/early morning and my doctors aren't open until Monday. I don't think it's serious as it only occurs at night, and not every night. Every other or so.

Definitely not heartburn!

My money is on gallstones

Sounds similar to gallbladder pain. I would see your GP soon. They're pretty good at prescribing painkillers without reluctance for gallbladder pain, in my experience (if it is that).

Yes to gallbladder.
I had mine out last year so know the pain well.
Try not eating a fatty or spicy meal And see if it still happens

Ah okay, do I need to see a GP? Is it something that will get better on its own?

I'd say gallstones is the most likely cause (especially with it radiating to your back) but you should always take chest pain seriously so I'd recommend calling 111. They'll tell you if you need to be seen today or if it can wait til a GP appointment tomorrow.

Unlikely to go away totally without surgery (simple keyhole surgery). You can try to manage it by cutting all fat from your diet which will reduce the frequency of attacks.

Some people only get moderate symptoms but mine made giving birth to a 10pound baby just in entinix look like a walk in the park.

Also if a stone lodges in your bile duct you are in trouble.

I'd visit your gp and ask for an ultrasound and to be referred to the it out. I had mine out 10 years ago and never looked back. My symptoms started in the same way.

Gall bladder or pancreas? This can create pain in tummy and also back x

Call 111 for advice and try and see your GP tomorrow.
It could be anything, don’t waste time speculating.

Yup sounds like gallstones to me. The pain was unbearable. I had 55 (!) and had to have my gallbladder removed surgically. Try a low fat diet with lots of easily free digestible food. I found spice and salad really aggravated mine! In fact in the run up to the surgery I ate nothing but brown rolls, pears, raw carrot and plain roasted chicken breasts.

another vote for gallstones. so often strikes in the night just as you've described. ask for a scan and don't be fobbed off.

Yup, probably gallstones. Go and see your GP tomorrow, provided the pain is coming on for short periods then easing off. If it's constant and not going away, you could have a gallbladder infection and from personal experience this can be horrific - in that case, get checked out today, I left it for five days thinking it was just more gallstones and ended up severely ill in hospital.

Of course it could be something else entirely but what you describe is exactly the pain I had from gallstones.

Coffee set my gallstone pain off so maybe avoid that too until see doctor.

Gosh thank you all for your advice! I did have a very fatty meal last night Blush I'm 25, don't know if that makes a difference.

My friend who is 26 has gallstones. It's still perfectly possible. But get it checked out then you'll know one way or another.

Ah right! I'll see how I am tonight, I've eaten much less fatty foods today. If it happens again I'll go see the GP!

You should see your GP now. If it is gallstones it can be a long waiting list which can be hellish if you’re in regular pain, and you have to be symptom-free for quite a while before they can operate.

Why is that? I don't know how anything like this works!

Sounds like a condition I have called costochondritis. Could be many things though, so write down when the pain happens, how long it lasts and anything that comes with it (acid reflux, pain when you press on chest etc) and see your gp.

Sounds like gallbladder to me. I went to a and e 3 times in agony and was sent home. Found out what it was from google. Now the gallbladder has been removed. Go to your GP as soon as you can (or contact NHS 24 if you have another attack)

@CosyFires I think so that they’re not operating when there’s inflammation? I had to go 2 weeks without an attack hence my very bland diet! I went private thanks to insurance through work but the waiting list was 6 months on the NHS in my area.

Report
CosyFires · 08/10/2017 20:14

Oh I see! 6 months is a long wait too if it reoccurs!
