SLIGHTLY LIGHTHEARTED!

I'm a size 6 (sometimes eight) and 5ft 5. My doctor is telling me that I urgently need to gain weight. I've tried pigging out and weight-gain powders, etc etc, all to no avail. And all I hear is this:

"Just eat!"
"It must be SO HARD for you, trying to GAIN WEIGHT!"
"You're so lucky, trying to gain weight! I need to lose weight!"
"Can I give you some of mine?"
"Hey, Friend X! yawning is trying to gain weight!"

AIBU to want to take off anyone's face who says the above?

biscuit

I can see how that would be annoying. There seems to be some kind of unwritten rule that you can’t comment on an overweight person’s size/weight (for the record I’m 16-18), but that anyone under a 12 is fair game. It’s double standards.

YANBU. Slim shaming is as bad as fat shaming.

Not sure why you got a biscuit hmm

Crunchymum Sat 07-Oct-17 12:36:17

If your doctor is so concerned then surely they have offered some sensible advice for you to follow? Or pointed you in the right direction?

Red wine and Kettle Chips helped me <light hearted. Although I am fat!!>

Why is your doctor telling you to gain weight as a matter of urgency? Has your weight caused health issues?

FeelingAggrieved Sat 07-Oct-17 12:37:31

The biscuit giver can have it back hmm biscuit

Helpmegetoverthisplease Sat 07-Oct-17 12:38:28

YANBU at all.

AnneLovesGilbert Sat 07-Oct-17 12:39:12

It must be annoying. I can't relate at all but there's loads more sympathy for anyone trying to lose weight than gain it as most people these days are a bit fat.

Could you all one extra thing to your diet to bulk out your calories in a healthy weight rather than eating unhealthy junk food? I don't know what but I'm sure if you want to and need to for your health you can google some good ideas to try.

It's not good to be very underweight. Think health, not weight.

InappropriateGavels Sat 07-Oct-17 12:41:57

Been in a similar situation. I used to get tired of the "You're so lucky" line as well.

Yep, because it's really luck to have an eating disorder hmm.

BenLui Sat 07-Oct-17 12:42:37

It must be very distressing. I’m not sure why people can’t just be kind.

Me neither since I would hazard a guess that anyone who can’t see the point OP is making is probably not that inclined to normally give biscuits away.

Whenever I drop weight it takes about 3 months of doubling to tripling what im eating to make a difference...chips sundayou dinners and extra portions three times a day...plus milkshakes to drink ...hard work!!...

yawning801 Sat 07-Oct-17 12:47:43

Maybe that biscuit is to help me gain weight! grin

greyhound I had two very invasive surgeries a few months ago and in order to recover properly I need to be a proper weight.

yawning801 Sat 07-Oct-17 12:48:35

Thank you everyone!

TheNaze73 Sat 07-Oct-17 12:51:58

YANBU.

It’s a bit like the people that accuse others on here of stealth boasts.

Elledouble Sat 07-Oct-17 12:56:55

It's jealousy, pure and simple. My sister is a size 10 despite eating and drinking whatever she likes. I put on weight if I so much as look at a plate of chips. It's hard not to feel a bit jealous.

What isn't on is to be rude to you about it.

user1499786242 Sat 07-Oct-17 12:57:16

Ahhh yes does my head in
I would never go up to a fat person and say 'god you look awful, you need to loose weight'
Yet people can say to me 'wow you look so gaunt, are you eating? You need to eat more, eat some cake, you look weak' blah blah

I wish there was a group that I could go to to get weekly support and diet plans on how to gain weight!

Dustbunny1900 Sat 07-Oct-17 12:57:20

Have your read "bony to bombshell: the skinny on why you're skinny"? Idk, I found it very interesting as Ive also been too skinny the vast majority of my life. Or do you have an overactive thyroid?
The only thing that made me gain weight was mirtazapene. That shit made me positively blow up. So hey, maybe consider that lol

Skyllo30 Sat 07-Oct-17 12:57:29

Some people are just naturally slim. As long as you feel well, are having regular periods etc it shouldn't be an issue.

A friend of mine is the same. She had to have jaw surgery a few years ago that would leave her having to only have purée for a month after and inevitably lose more weight so she stuffed herself silly the month before to gain weight so she wouldn't be a skeleton after!

DancesWithOtters Sat 07-Oct-17 12:59:25

You're welcome to some of my arse fat. Here you go 🐖🐖🐖

yawning801 Sat 07-Oct-17 13:00:45

Would being anaemic be a factor do you think? I take regular sodium feredetate and have felt a lot better. Periods are regular although I get horrific back and stomach pains like most people.

Skyllo the surgery was on my back and the combination of two anaesthetics and a shit ton of morphine and dihydrocodeine meant that I barely ate from the beginning of June until the middle of July.

Sorry for dripfeeding!

yawning801 Sat 07-Oct-17 13:01:39

I hope that's sarcasm Dances!! Otherwise I might be tempted to, as I said in my OP, take your face off!!!! wink

ivykaty44 Sat 07-Oct-17 13:05:55

I was just 7.8stone at 20 and 5.7 but just eat when hungry and certainly didn’t go hungry.

I think people have become accustomed to people being bigger

Getout21 Sat 07-Oct-17 13:08:00

Whilst I was a teen/young adult I could eat everything (& did) & was skinny. Most of my sporty friends were the same, not now since in our 30s & having kids. However I have lived with someone who "couldn't put weight on" who ate less than I did when I was on a diet & exercised for at least an hour daily.

I think there are very few 30+ yr olds who could eat 4000 calories a day & lead a sedentary lifestyle without putting on weight. Of course a few will exist, ironic that they always seem to end up modelling, acting, singing etc!
