AIBU to ask why Tony Blair went from being fairly popular to being very unpopular?

I completely understand that factors such as the Iraq War have a huge part to play in why TB became unpopular, but would be interested to hear if there are also other reasons.

On a side-note, I'm quite impressed despite myself by the fact that he, as well as Alastair Campbell, is still in the media so muxh, despite the fact that they are so unpopular. The electorate and the media have lost a lot of respect for him and those close to him while he was in power, but we still can't seem to get enough of them in a way. It's odd confused

I was 5 when TB came to power and 15 when he left government, so it's so interesting to come back to it all now and think about his time in power from an adult perspective and with hindsight.

Well, I never understood why he was so electable. First time, I can see why it happened. But after that??

War criminal. Quite a big thing.

MyBrilliantDisguise Fri 06-Oct-17 18:06:25

To say he's a war criminal is crazy. Anything he did he did with the approval of both sides of the house.

StealthPolarBear Fri 06-Oct-17 18:06:36

Iraq and "education education education" imo

BoneyBackJefferson Fri 06-Oct-17 18:14:02

he is a smarmy politician that bent the rules to his own gain.

Iraq and "education education education" imo

Stealth why was the 'education education education' thing a bad idea? I understand that not everyone is suited to going to university, for example, but I think promoting education was a good idea.

Sucking Dubya’s cock so blatantly?

CaptainMarvelDanvers Fri 06-Oct-17 18:18:59

Iraq and his complete lack of self awareness.

MagdalenLaundry Fri 06-Oct-17 18:20:51

War
He turned the Labour party into the Conservative party and sold out Labour principles. Privatisation, free market policies Yadda Yadda

RobinHumphries Fri 06-Oct-17 18:22:36

Blair said he wouldn't introduce tuition fees. He lied.
He's a war criminal

NashvilleQueen Fri 06-Oct-17 18:23:02

There was so much good that came out of those Labour administrations. I think we forget a lot of that now and his legacy has become Iraq + earning shed loads of money from public speaking engagements.

He still keeps butting in with his opinions when he ought to shut up now.

StealthPolarBear Fri 06-Oct-17 18:26:33

I get the impression he promised and failed to deliver. I don't really know. That's not my opinion just what I picked up.

SuburbanRhonda Fri 06-Oct-17 18:27:04

To say he's a war criminal is crazy. Anything he did he did with the approval of both sides of the house.

He presented them with a dodgy dossier of plagiarised information so he lied to get them to approve invading Iraq.

TheOtherNNB Fri 06-Oct-17 18:27:33

Being a shady bastard doesn’t help him eother

ComingUpTrumps Fri 06-Oct-17 18:27:46

Have my very, very first biscuit - are you the Daily Mail as this seems the most infantile question [and I say that as someone who cannot bear TB]

There's not really any need for that baby. Why is it an infantile question?

I'm an established poster, and have been on the site for a while - you can search for my old posts if you like.

Iraq war after a million marched in London.
Tuition fees.
Yes to following everything GWBush did to keep the 'special relationship' going.
Also owning loads of buy to rent properties around London.
I don't think his religion helped either.

SilverySurfer Fri 06-Oct-17 18:29:02

He's a smarmy, money grabbing, lying war criminal who nededs toshut the fuck up. No-one wants his opinions. I can't stand his wife either.

MyBrilliantDisguise Fri 06-Oct-17 18:29:11

Which religion is that then? He was CofE while he was PM and then became Catholic. Which do you object to?

OnlyTheDepthVaries Fri 06-Oct-17 18:29:20

He is a lying cheating obnoxious wankstain bastard war criminal. Hideous toady of a man.

fc301 Fri 06-Oct-17 18:29:52

He started a war.
He's a raging narcissist who won't shut the fuck up and go away.
He lied.
He governed only for the next days headlines. Truth was out. Spin was in. That has soiled all politics to this day.
He opened the immigration floodgates. No questions asked.
Nobody was allowed to say anything remotely unPC, sowing the seeds for rampant fundamentalism.
He did nothing for the traditional labour voting working classes.
They spent every cent we had.
How am I doing?

TheOtherNNB Fri 06-Oct-17 18:29:55

Dodgy mates... that Peter Foster bloke
