To pick up a parcel at 8.30pm?

Just got an email saying my parcels been delivered to a neighbour. I don't know them, quite a few doors down.

I'm not home from work till 8.30pm. Is this too late to knock to collect? I realllly want it, but it's not massively urgent.

AIBU to knock? Happy to be led by opinions so don't flame grin

I would be glad to be rid of the parcel - perhaps check if there are lights on/if the house looks awake and be really, really apologetic about how late it is, just in case...

Smarshian Thu 05-Oct-17 16:36:53

I'd say your fine before 9 x

SusanTheGentle Thu 05-Oct-17 16:37:47

I think fine before 9 as well.

CockacidalManiac Thu 05-Oct-17 16:38:07

I wouldn’t mind if it was me

FittonTower Thu 05-Oct-17 16:38:50

8.30 would be a good time here - kids bedtime over but my bedtime hasn't begun....

StealthPolarBear Thu 05-Oct-17 16:41:18

Yes of course.
Unless your neighbour is an mner then they won't answer the door after dark (and before dark in some cases)

Might be too late for an elderly person.

Pinkvoid Thu 05-Oct-17 16:45:40

I had a neighbour knock on my door at 11pm last week to drop one of my parcels off he'd taken in so I'd say 8:30 is absolutely fine!

Sparklingbrook Thu 05-Oct-17 16:45:45

Fine with me but according to another thread on here people don't answer the door after dark. or at all. grin

BertrandRussell Thu 05-Oct-17 16:45:53

Normal people-perfectly fine. Mumsnetters will set the dogs on you.

CottonEyedJoe Thu 05-Oct-17 16:46:39

Yes, I think I've been on MN too long and that's what's making me doubt myself blush

Crunchymum Thu 05-Oct-17 16:48:26

I've got 2 young kids and a stupid doorbell. It wakens the dead.

I don't appreciate it being ring after kids are in bed (but I do answer!!)

Sparklingbrook Thu 05-Oct-17 16:48:39

Don't worry. In the RL people answer doors to their neighbours. if they have your parcel they will be expecting you. They may <shock, horror> knock your door and give it to you.

Gizlotsmum Thu 05-Oct-17 16:48:47

Hmm one neighbour I wouldn’t at that time ( elderly) the other I would. But I would check for signs of lights on etc

FruitBadger Thu 05-Oct-17 16:51:48

I probably wouldn't, but most of my neighbours are elderly. If I knew it was a young person who was less likely to be intimidated by a knock at the door after it had started to get dark, then I would. And I'd be fine if someone collected a parcel from me at that time. After 9:00 then I wouldn't unless it was urgent. But I wouldn't telephone friends or family after 9:00 unless it was urgent or they were expecting me to either.

melj1213 Thu 05-Oct-17 16:52:35

I'd say it was fine before about 9pm ... as long as there are lights on/they're clearly still awake and up and about, I'm sure they will be glad to have prompt collection

CottonEyedJoe Thu 05-Oct-17 16:53:02

Ok, doubting myself again. But have to leave at 7.30 tomorrow to get to uni and am then working late again. So they'll probably be more annoyed having it until Saturday won't they? I did tell the website to put it in my garden angry

CottonEyedJoe Thu 05-Oct-17 16:53:27

I'll check the lights smile

Redglitter Thu 05-Oct-17 16:54:44

830pm is fine. Especially if the other option is leaving it til the weekend

Freshprincess Thu 05-Oct-17 16:58:53

Wouldn't bother me at that time, I wouldn't answer the door after 10 though, mostly because I'm in bed.
I wouldn't even mind 730am, though you'd catch me in my dressing gown.

BertrandRussell Thu 05-Oct-17 17:02:16

"They may <shock, horror> knock your door and give it to you."

If this happens you must of course ignore the knock and complain about it on here tomorrow

Sparklingbrook Thu 05-Oct-17 17:04:05

YY definitely Bertrand and call the neighbour a CF for daring to ring your doorbell and expect you to answer your door.

hmcAsWas Thu 05-Oct-17 17:06:17

I also have a 9pm deadline in my head (I don't like people phoning me after 9 either) - so 8.30 is fine

BertrandRussell Thu 05-Oct-17 17:07:36

And then ring 101 to "log it"
