To ask how many rounds of IVF you had?

About to start my first round, age 33. Trying to work out the balance between hoping it will work and accepting it might not.

If you went through IVF, how many rounds did you have?

1! We were extremely lucky. There was no known reason for our infertility, e.g. Nothing wrong with egg or sperm quality, so maybe we just needed the extra help.

Ps I was 39 so perhaps age was the main factor for us

My SIL had one which was successful, then one that unfortunately failed. None since. Good friend had 3 fails (one worked but early miscarriage) then a success.

4 to get a baby.

I got a bfp on my first round but then miscarried.

I was 37 for all the rounds and we had been ttc for 3 years. We were unexplained.

I think I was 33 when we started.

First fresh blasocyst transfer - unsuccessful
2 frozen blastocyst transfers from first batch - each unsuccessful
Second fresh day 3 transfer (2 embryos) - successful singleton pregnancy

it's hard to work out the probabilities and apply them to yourself. if you have 'unexplained infertility' and you respond fine to all the drugs, sperm are fine, you make eggs and embryos, but then don't get pregnant, (implantation failure) the stats broadly show it is worth doing 3-4 rounds before giving up. After 4 rounds, it is likely that you are in the small percentage for whom it doesn't work.

However it's not that simple as saying "do 3"!
First, you may have other reasons (endo, male factor, etc etc). I would recommend looking at the live birth statistics for the best clinics for people with your specific problem or the closest you can get. There is a lot of noise in the system, for instance outdated stats can be less valid as techniques have improved in last few years. Your age makes a difference - 33 is young but it depends again on why you're doing Ivf.

Second, after your first cycle, if it fails, you might be able to try other things e.g. medicine helping with blood clotting, uterine scratches, killer call therapies etc. You will find that there is always something to tweak in the protocol so you'll have to make a call each time as to whether that is likely to make a difference. So that will affect your appetite for trying again and again.

Finally, even if you work out all the state and find out that only 0.05% of women don't get pregnant within 6 cycles, or whatever, you don't know if YOU are one of them or not.

I guess tl;dr - you should research to get a realistic sense of your chances before you bet the farm on it. But you also need to keep positive - the first cycle totally could be the one for you. and I hope it is xx

5 IUIs (1 successful) 5 IVFS (none successful)
2 beautiful children, one born to us, one adopted.
I wish I had known when we were going through IVF and so upset about each failure that our beautiful daughter would be ours. I'm so glad now that IVF didn't work for us because our dd is scrumptious

I was 29 turned 30 during pregnancy, I had 1 ICSI nhs cycle with 2 day 3 embryos resulting in a singleton. No Frosties saved.
I then had a paid cycle which was positive but resulted in miscarriage, I then had a frozen cycle of two day 5 blasts resulting in a singleton age 33. I have more frozen embryos that I intend to use. I have been very lucky, fingers crossed for you x

5 collection rounds, with a total of 11 embryo transfers
Got pregnant on my first one, with a total of 3 pregnancies from them all, so I sit pretty much between the clinic's guestimate of a 33% success rate and the national average of 25%

We did four rounds of ICSI, pregnant with twins buy lost one at 10 weeks. DS is now 7 months old and we're thinking of going again soon ish. Good luck

I had lots of blood tests after my stillbirth and from the results had anti blood clotting injections during my 2nd pregnancy. So although it was male factor I probably have difficulties staying pregnant.

1st ICSI was successful, I was 37 at the time.
Then we had two unsuccessful treatments before calling it a day, an ICSI and a FET when I was 39/40.

Good luck! It's a tough process to go through but there's lots of support available x

4 rounds of IVF, 6 blastocysts put back in but none worked. I was 38/39ish.
We are 'unexplained'. Had all tests and passed but just can't get pregnant.

Gave up. But over a year since the last failed IVF and I'm wishing we'd tried again Sad

Thanks for sharing. The things we go through Sad

We are unexplained and our chances are in the upper brackets at our clinic. After two years of trying in vain I can’t ever imagine it happening

It's a tough process. A roller-coaster of hope and disappointment. And very expensive

First round ICSI - successful but lost within two weeks. I was 35. DH was 36.

Three months later, second round ICSI - added treatment for NK cells - successful, twins. Lost one twin at 14 weeks. The remaining twin will be 10 soon.

The treatment is so gruelling and it took over my life. Wishing you all the very best luck Flowers

Double check you've had the thryoid function test and thrombolia screen...

A lot of couples labeled as 'unexplained' do in fact have a diagnosable (and treatable) issue, but haven't had the correct test

Had 1 successful round of ICSI (was meant to be basic IVF). I was 33, with no obvious reason for infertility except a few minor sperm issues. Sample wasn't great on the day which is why they unexpectedly offered ICSI.

1 x IVF - unsuccessful
1 x ICSI with a fresh blast - miscarried at 7 weeks
1 x FET - resulted in DS whom I'm currently bf on the sofa! Worth it all.
