Why can't I get a greggs iced split in the home counties? And why are greggs bread puddings not avaliable in the south?

Are regional tastes so different that the whole uk can't enjoy a nasty but strangely alluring and edible iced split?

Because baked goods are very regional and Greggs only has a limited amount of space on its shelves.

You see I always thought that the northern stores would do a bread pudding but I've never seen them but the greggs in sw london are full of them.

What is an iced split? Is it that big bun thing that cuts into slices like a cake? (With one cherry in the middle?)

I've never heard of an iced split so just did a Google search. is it just a hot dog bun with icing on and cream in the middle.

It is indeed. Whenever I go to the North East, I always make a point of buying a stottie. Morrisons sell them too so are also guilty of this regional discrimination.

I travel around a lot for work and eat in Greggs more than is recommended because they are everywhere these days and I often have to make do with what is right in front of me right now and have noticed the regional differences in the Greggs offering. Whenever I get to London, I do like a piece of Tottenham cake on occasion.

And one of the most surreal experiences of my life was trying to buy a sandwich in Greggs in the West Midlands. At the time, most of the Greggs sandwiches in Yorkshire, where I live were made in breadcakes (roll, cob, barm, etc) and that's what I wanted from Birmingham Greggs, but no they only did sliced bread sandwiches. I could see breadcakes on the shelf behind the counter and asked for ham in a breadcake, and it was like I was speaking a foreign language and after a frustrating few minutes of 'you want what???' and me repeating 'ham in a breadcake please' like it was the most everyday thing ever, which it was, but to Birmingham Greggs person I might as well have been asking for a unicorn kebab, I gave up and got one in sliced bread, which isn't as nice.

Iced splits are weird because the bun bit has no sugar in it at all. It really is a hot dog bun. I repeat, there is no sugar in the bun.

Gregg's mince pies. I live in Yorkshire and have to go back to Newcastle to get a decent mince pie.

When I first moved here I asked for a mince pie and the lady in the baker's got confused because it was may.

Co Op sells iced finger buns. Get a pack of those and a tube of squirty cream and make your own!

Stottie fan here too. Best lunch ever is an egg mayonnaise stottie.
