No, it is not true.

Chances are you will have some connection to people you are stalking, and that would be the basis of the Facebook suggestion.

I've read that it is true.

Yes it is true but you'd likely pop up anyway.

They use algorithms for everything online so I don't know why people think they can anonymously snoop on FB!

I think it’s true, sorry! My ex’s accountant from around 15 years ago appeared on my people you may know a couple of months ago. There is nothing that could possibly make that connection, no shared area, no mutual friends or interests and I have no contact details on my computer or phone, I’ve also not googled or looked him up for any reason.

it’s definitey true, no question!

A couple of people I have no connection with on Facebook have recently popped up as someone I might know.....I do - one is my solicitor, and I assume that as I sent her a couple of emails the day before, big brother has now decided we should be Facebook friends too Hmm
Either that, or she's stalking me on there....can't see it somehow though.

Yup, sorry, I also think it's true!

Yes, it's true. A woman I did an evening course with and hated 10 years ago recently popped up on mine. We have no friends in common and I've changed my email address since then, so it's not like the suggestion could have been calculated from our previous email contacts.

Yes its true. I stalked an ex from 25 years ago, no phone number or email stored in my phone or even known. Came up.

Alison100199 · 01/10/2017 20:02

Totally different friends too. None in common.

I think it's true too. I have stalked using my DH's account and people he would never have known come up on his 'friends you might know'.

I think it’s true! My bloody Doctor came up on mine Shock no mutual friends what so ever. She’s not even English so not like she grew up here and there’s some distant connection. I reckon she’s been a lurky turkey!

People you have looked at do obviously do come up on your own people you might now, as you are looking at them so FB calculates you might want to add them as a friend...don't know if you come up on theirs though nothing would surprise me about those bastards.

People you have checked out definitely cone up up on your 'people you might know'. DH's XW keeps popping up on mine, presumably because I snoop on her page (yes, sad but friends close, enemies.....)

ConcernedNeighbour17 · 01/10/2017 20:08

Its definitely true. FB deny it but I've stalked and been stalked too many times for it to be coincidence!

Report
Harvestmoonsobig · 01/10/2017 20:09

Excellent! I've some interesting 'you may knows' but dismiss them as purely coincidental.

Report
bastardkitty · 01/10/2017 20:09

It's true.

Not sure... your doctor might come up because you're both in the same place regularly? My hairdresser did, anyway, and she doesn't know my surname so couldn't have been stalking!

Report
bastardkitty · 01/10/2017 20:12

That can also happen

Report

I think some people are misunderstanding the original question. The OP is worried that her stalking will mean she will now pop up on their people you know, not her own.

I'm pretty sure this is true. Somebody from years ago whom I'd rather forget turned up in my 'people you may know' and like other posters, we have no friends in common and they never had the email address or mobile number with which I set up my Facebook account.

Report
danTDM · 01/10/2017 20:15

I don't think it's true, I think it's friends of friends, email addresses you may have once had etc.

I know this as me and DH don't have any friends except for each other and DD. Don't use facebook, just for school website and DD's games. Everything totally private, security settings max. For one reason or another he has a lot of Eastern European clients. Not friends with him, but he has their email addresses. They all come up on my 'friends you might know' and DD (9)! She never uses it and has not been stalking Ukranians. Me neither. DH neither!

I used to be worried about this too, but I'm not now.

Don't worry OP

I hope not Blush. I get LOADS of random people on my 'people you might know' which I have no link too. Pretty sure they're not all stalking me
