Lower left abdominal pain

Posting for traffic and hope AINBU to ask if anyone can help.

Since yesterday I have had intermittent sharp stabbing pains in my lower left abdomen. It feels like the ovarian region but I have no idea why I would have pain there. I'm on day 3 of period. I have no history of any gynae issues. Has anyone had anything similar or have any thoughts? Dreading the rigmarole of trying to get a GP appt. Thanks in advance.

Have you have had a good shit? Used to get loads of people in A and E with these symptoms and all they needed was a good poo!

Could you be pg? Without wishing to go to drama level immediately, keep an eye out for increasing pain, and feeling unwell. Ectopics happen. I think you can check for rebound pain for an ectopic, ie, press the area without making it more painful, but then when you take your hand away it hurts a lot more...

Or clippitys answer Grin

Thanks. DH had the snip four years ago so pregnancy would be a miracle.

How intermittent are the pains? And how are you between them? Is the pain moving at all, or always in the same place? Does paracetamol have any effect on the pain level?

I had a day of pretty constant moderate pain in my stomach. I figured it was trapped wind or a monster poo. Eventually my mum took my toddler and told me to go to a&e. Next day they removed my appendix.

It could be anything from a bit of wind, to period pain, to gall bladder or appendix or kidney stones. Might be worth calling the non emergency NHS line (I can never remember whether it's 101 or 111! I would be terrible in a not-quite-an-emergency.)

I had this and it was an ovarian cyst twisting around my Fallopian tube. I needed surgery. Speak to a gp is it persists and ask for an ultrasound (I was sent home several times with painkillers before they eventually scanned me)

I had the same as Pacific....had problems on and off for 9 years so by the time it was diagnosed it was massive and the pain was far worse than being in labour. Get yourself to the doctors if it carries on and insist of a transvaginal scan.

I have had this for a few years off and on. As BlueKarou says, it could be any number of things but my bet is it is bowel related.

My issues seemed to start within weeks after a coil fitting and came on suddenly in the middle of the night. I nearly took myself to A&E it was so severe. Saw GP that morning, referreal to gynae, ultrasound scans for cysts were clear, had a laparoscopy, adhesions found and removed whilst he was in there but he couldn't idenitfy why I was getting the pain intermittently. No endometriosis or similar. The adhesions were sticking abdominal wall, sigmoid colon and fallopian tube so potentially normal bowel motion could have been restricted causing the pain.
Carried on for a few years. Eventually pain was manageable but I started with other bowel related symptoms and diagnosed by GP as having IBS. Through trial and error I realised that coffee was my trigger and now I have very few bouts of pain.

Keep a note of when it comes on, when you cycle is and how your bowels are. See if there is a pattern and go to your GP. Good luck!

Could be an ovarian cyst.

Thank you everybody. I suspect something ovarian as well or maybe even a kidney stone or bladder thing? Its intensified a bit this evening so I guess I will see how it is overnight and think about seeing my GP tomorrow if it doesn't improve. Its just odd, has come on out of the blue and it would be nice to have someone do some kind of imaging and just tell me what it is. I really don't think its bad enough for a&e or similar though at this stage.

I've had this but not as severe. It's always in the same place and always left side. I have had endometrial cysts which probably caused the worse pain but I also get it there (less severely) when I ovulate. I hope you get to the bottom of it.

It could well be IBS. I have a very similar situation to Alwaysbittired. My trigger is too much fat, particularly in mince meat. I now buy good quality mince and also cook it first and drain all the fat off.
