AIBU?

To think the reason I can't get divorced is ridiculous?

Me ex wants me to hand over a rare vinyl I'm not even sure I have anymore. Or he won't agree to the financial arrangements. It cost about £10 when we bought it about 7 years ago.

I can see why you are divorcing

pallisers · 26/09/2017 14:34

Yes I can see why you are divorcing too :)

Tell him you'll see him in court. Or buy another one on ebay and tell him you will smash it with a hammer and post it on youtube unless your financial settlement improves.

MelvinThePenguin · 26/09/2017 14:34

Do you object to handing over the vinyl? If not, you could look for it and solve the problem potentially...

Yes, it's ridiculous, but it doesn't seem from your post that it's impossible to resolve as yet.

AnnetteCurtains · 26/09/2017 14:34

Check it out first
Some are worth a fortune

DJBaggySmalls · 26/09/2017 14:35

Get it in writing and present it as evidence.

guilty100 · 26/09/2017 14:36

Find the record.

If you can't find it, rebuy it. Look at Discogs for sellers.

It will be more than worth it to get rid of this tosser.

user1487175389 · 26/09/2017 14:36

I have looked, but so far haven't found it. Suspect it may have been charity shopped with a job lot a while back.

Totally embarrass the twat by sending a concerned email explaining that you don't think you have it but you'll send out a post to ALL your FB friends asking if they know of anyone who can help. Say in a jolly way that you'll explain that without it you can't get divorced as ex to be won't agree to your financial settlement- help the poor woman whose ex needs this vinyl so much! Share widely! Say that if he's lucky it will go viral and he'll DEFINITELY get a copy...

He will sign. Rather than risk the world knowing what a petty little shit he is.

IceCreamIScream · 26/09/2017 14:38

Blimey. I can see why you'd want rid.
Out of interest what was the vinyl? Could the collective power of mumsnet find it?

user1487175389 · 26/09/2017 14:39

Am desperately searching ebay

OP posts:
FizzyGreenWater · 26/09/2017 14:39

Also, post it here? With gaps between letters of band name and album so not searchable??? Is it supposed to be worth a lot or is it just something important to him? Or - gasp - is he just a complete arsehole?!

FizzyGreenWater · 26/09/2017 14:40

Post here with gaps - it's amazing the range of folk you get here! We've got tons of vinyl...

guilty100 · 26/09/2017 14:40

You might find this site better than ebay: www.discogs.com/search/

I collect vinyl Grin.

user1487175389 · 26/09/2017 14:40

It's quite outing so cant really say which one. Much as I'd like to

OP posts:
guilty100 · 26/09/2017 14:40

I hasten to add, I have never deployed vinyl in a financial hostage situation, however Wink

SecretFreebirther · 26/09/2017 14:42

Think it's already going to be outing. At least let us help!

littlebird77 · 26/09/2017 14:42

Seriously?! It is embarrassing to ask for something so pathetic. Sorry for your divorce but I really do think in this case it is for the best Flowers

HolgerDanske · 26/09/2017 14:44

That Facebook idea is genius.

Do it!

ShatterResistantRuler · 26/09/2017 14:56

I once spent 19 days trying to settle the financials in a divorce over a Pearl Jam CD. My legal fees alone were over £18,000 by the end of it. Some people have very expensive principles Grin

guilty100 · 26/09/2017 14:59

Shock @ Shatter

In my (bitter) experience with divorce, it's much cheaper and easier to let the small stuff go!

Elendon · 26/09/2017 14:59

Agree with DJ

The court is going to have a right laugh with this one.

Do not look for it! Most will cost around £25 to replace, at the most £50. He sounds pathetic. No wonder you are divorcing him.

Elendon · 26/09/2017 15:02

If you do get it, they will find some other crappy stick to beat you with.

I can't even begin to imagine the mindset behind this.

god, you're well rid of him, he mustve been a nightmare to live with. whatever the vinyl is it needs to be top of the playlist for the divorce party!

Slimthistime · 26/09/2017 15:21

Don't look for it
He'll just complain it's not the original and find something else to be petty about
Can you imagine this in court? Tell him to FFOTTFSOFTFOSM.

SendintheArdwolves · 26/09/2017 15:22

Look for the record. If you don't have it any more (and it was you who chucked it out/gave it away/donated it to charity) just buy him a new one.

We're all so sure that he is being unreasonable and petty and spiteful and dreadful. All of those things might very well be the case (and divorce is not known for bringing out the best in people) but the only info we have is that he'd like his rare record back.

Either he is being petty or it really is something that means a hell of a lot to him. Either way, give it to him and don't engage with the squabble.
