To think i look like a weird freak of nature in photos

I dont get it. I really like the way i look in the mirror and in videos too.

But ive just taken some passport photos and i look like an absolute freak. My eyes look like an axe murder, my bone structure has completely melted away so i look like my face is just a slab and my face appears to be totally lopsided.

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How is it possible to go from video goddess (JOKE) to still photo monster?

Oh also its not fair how like 10 years ago passport photos were kind of slightly blurrier and taken from further away. Now your face is this looming massive hi definition presence that takes up the entire photo!

I have exactly the same issue OP I look awful in photos, yet, I quite like how I look in real life - it just never translates into photos. I never look like me. Others, inc. my partner agree and comment that we can never get a good photo of me - if I smile I look slightly crazy and if I don't I just look plain weird. I hate photos of me and yes the HD ones have just made everything worse. I've given up.

I look like I have a giant head with my features all bunched up in the middle in photos. I don't have a giant head in real life, in fact I have a small head and can fit into children's hats, and also while my features are nothing special they're correctly spaced out on my face. Yet somehow in photos I look like tiny faced bobble head woman.

Hahahahahaha really enjoying your self descriptions.
@onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad

Yes my partner always says "its mental you look nothing like you" which is reassuring as fuck but i still cannot stand this!
Totally agree, if I dont smile I look like i actually have had brain injury but if I smile I look like a male alcoholic.

Theres gotta be some way we can do passport photos from home no? Maybe not having the horrific time pressure and robot voice of the booth might help.

Or i could just get over myself 😁

Every photo of me looks like an angry mug shot. I seem to have a massive face!

I also plastered myself in make-up this time to see if that would help but on the photo you literally cannot see any of it (?????).

So im now sat on the train made up like a clown, clutching my ugly face photos and sobbing. #jokes

It all depends on the camera. I have a camera which takes beautiful photos of everyone, even the really, really ugly ones.

@splendidisolation this sounds exactly like me. I generally look ok according to my mirror {and my husband/kids} however, take a picture and I morph into someone else entirely. I can’t figure out why!!!!
If I could live my life with the snapchat reindeer filter on, I totally would.

I also prefer myself in the mirror to photos. But I'm sure I read, terrifyingly, that photos are more accurate because mirrors are the reverse image?!

I avoid all photos because it highlights every fucking thing I don't like, and that I don't seem to notice day to day. Jutting chin - check. Wonky eyes - check. Yellow teeth - check. The mirror somehow softens the mess Grin

I'm the same. Not bad looking IRL (if I do say so myself) but look absolutely horrendous in photos. It's very annoying. And to make it worse I'm the odd one out in a family of very photogenic people.

I'm always awful in photos. A double chinned, cross eyed, blinking, big nosed monstrosity. Sometimes when I look good in the mirror I take a photo to try and capture it but it never works. Makes me very depressed and I fucking hate having my photo taken

You can do passport photos at home! Try paspic.com
I did the kids photos there, really easy and no problem getting them approved.

I'll never be able to win the passport photo lottery as I look like death. Years of an iron deficiency has given me really pale skin, dark bags under my eyes and to top it off... a lazy eye that makes me look like a drug-infused knife-weilding psycho.
I wear glasses so I don't even look like the photo anyway but that's another point.

I'm the same. I always look like a moon face, plain, strange looking person in pictures. Actually I think I may be ugly anyway so that's probably why.

Everyone looks like a serial killer/cult leader/fringe member of ETA in their passport photos. I think it's deliberately engineered to give the staff at border checks a laugh in what is otherwise a very dull job.

StigmaStyle · 26/09/2017 12:25

A lot of people look like a serial killer in passport photos, I think it's because you have to remember NOT to smile so end up with that blank murderous stare. Or is that just me? I look like I'm thinking "I will fucking get you you bastard"! I'm quite nice really!

In other photos I get nervous waiting for them to take the pic and my face freezes into this horrendous half-hearted smirk that reminds me of my mum (not a good thing). I hate most photos of me.

Everyone looks grim in passport photos, it's the law.

Oh i've giggled at this thread - I am the same. I look a total goon in photos, even my wedding day pics when I had hair and makeup done and looked (even though I say so myself) lovely in real life.

I did passport pics at home very recently - you can now do them on a smart phone and upload them onto the passport website (my Bro in law did it for me). But I genuinely looked DOUBLY awful - he took it from really close up to my face (much closer than a passport machine) and I look like I have a bulbous head and weird gooky eyes. And I have to live with it now for the next 10 years. God I sound so vain! Some people are photogenic, the rest are not (I'm firmly in 'the rest' group unfortunately).

I'm my sisters passport photo she has an unfortunate shadow that makes her look like she has stubble. She's got years left on it and I laugh at it regularly.

I have this. I’m hugely unphoto genic. I think it’s because photos don’t catch nuances of movement and angles in most cases. So your face can flatten out. My daughter is the same, she is very pretty in real life, but her face goes sort of flat in photos.

I’ve only once seen a picture of her looking as pretty as she does in real life. A professional photographer captured her at an event and posted it to their website. A candid shot, and she looked like her, the rest she looks no where near as lovely as she does in real life.

I pull a horrible sort of smug "come hither" face without even meaning to. I end up looking like someone trying to do Jordan lips and Roger Moore raised eyebrow in a police line-up. I can't help it. Sad

My passport photo is so bad, I actually have had a immigration do an exaggerated double take on it, hold it up to my face, grinning then burst out laughing. I just said “yeah yeah I know” 😳
