To Ask How Long it Takes you to get Ready in Mornings?

I wake up at 7:00 and need to be out of the house by 8, which gives me an hour, quite a long time? Without adding anything else, it takes me nearly ten minutes to heave myself out of, a further twenty for breakfast, twenty minutes in the bathroom to go to the toilet, clean teeth etc and then another ten minutes to get dressed, so I always end up applying any makeup in the car as well as brushing my hair. Am I just ridiculously slow or do others have this struggle too? Confused

I really struggle.

I get up between 6-630am. I have to leave at 7.45, I'm always late if I'm not up at 6.

I have to have a coffee, eat breakfast, go to the toilet, have a shower, get dressed, do make up, get toddler ready, coax older child to get ready, make a sandwich.

So need 1 hour and 45. Seems too long doesn't it.

Get up at half six and drop DD off at nursery at 8. Doesn't feel like an hour and a half!

If I'm working I'm leaving the house at 06:30 so 5:30 alarm, press snooze for about 15 mins, shower, tea in a flask and a bit of fruit to go. Teeth, let hair naturally dry and a bit of mascara. 10 minute hunt for keys or one shoe and I'm gone!

My alarm goes off at 5am and I'm showered, dressed, coffee drunk and out the door on the dot of 5:30am.

That's if I'm working. DH sorts kids on those days, or it's a weekend and he's home with them.

If it's a study day my alarm goes off at 5:45am, I wake secondary age kid, shower, dress, wake primary kid, we're all downstairs dressed and having breakfast at 6:15am. Wave big kid off to the school bus at 6:30am and smaller ones at 7am. Do dishwasher, stick a load of laundry on, have another coffee and leave at 7:30am.

I like to have an hour in the mornings, that's just enough time not to be rushing

If it's just me to get ready I'm up, showered, fed & out in about 30 minutes. If I have to take any of the teens with me there is loads more faffing. And nagging. It can get very stressful.

Anything from 20 mins to 1h30 depending when I showered (night before or morning) and if I am having breakfast and how slow I am feeling.

I wake at 6am, am out of the house by 8am but like to potter/dick about on Facebook/look at shit on Pinterest and try on 24 outfits before I leave the house.

Actual getting ready probably takes 25 minutes including showering. The rest is trying to crowbar DS1 out of his pit, shouting "put your socks on, satan" at DS2 and chasing the dog about the lawn as she tries to catch pigeons for a laugh.

I like to have an hour before having to leave. I can manage that and don't want to speed up. I can be up and out in 40 minutes, but don't want to be.

When I had young children it was 90/120 minutes.

Up at 5.50. shower, dress, empty dishwasher, make and drink a cup of tea, do makeup (not much), make lunch to take to work. Pack bag with lunch and breakfast (made night before). Leave house at 6.40.

I know everyone is different, but I cannot fathom why people (without relevant health problems) don't just get out of bed when the alarm goes off.

Getting up is equally shit if you have to get up, whether it's 5am, 6am or 7am. Why people drag it out and don't just get it over with confuses me - it's like choosing to take a plaster off very slowly instead of ripping it off quickly. I'm old and achy but I don't see how dragging getting out of bed out over 10 or 15 minutes would be better than just automatically heaving myself to the bathroom the second the alarm goes off.

If it's just me and I'm not straightening my hair (which is like a giant haystack) I can be done and dusted in half an hour. Because I have 3 dc to get ready and I have limited options for dealing with the haystack without straighteners, it's more like an hour and three quarters and even then we race out of the door on the brink of lateness.

I always feel in a desperate rush in the mornings. It takes me a good 1 and 1/2 hours from up til out the door.

My tip would be to have your outfit more or less planned so you're not rummaging about for black tights or whatever in the morning.
20 mins seems like a long breakfast. Can you eat quicker? Grin

I don't really understand doing make up in the car. Aren't you driving?

Alarm goes off at 6am, get up by 6.30 usually then shower, wash hair and stick make up on etc and leave the house by 7.10.

I don't have to get the kids get ready though, DH does that.

It is a scientifically proven fact that the hour between 7.30 and 8.30 goes by faster than any other hour in the day!

Report
RedSkyAtNight · 25/09/2017 17:52

About 20 minutes to actually get ready.

And another 30 slowly drinking a cup of tea and working up to it.

Report
Fluffysparks · 25/09/2017 17:52

Evelyn I see your point, but I am one of those people who rips the plasters off slowly Grin

Glad to know I'm not the only one who takes so long anyway!

I get up at 6.30. Shower, make up and hair. Wake the kids up. Get dressed while dd is dressing. Dh sorts ds out.

Make a coffee and chat to dd while she eats. Out of the house at 7.40. So an hour and 10 mins. But that includes half an hour drinking coffee and sat about.

I can be up and out in 35 mins if dd is off school.

Evelyn I must admit I lie in bed for about ten mins after the alarm wondering who I am and working out what day it is..
I do admire your get up and go and will attempt your approach tomorrow.
