AIBU?

... To just scream FUCK IT ALL and shove them in the local primary.

Good god I'm exhausted. I have three beautiful DC's. DS1 in Reception, DS2 in nursery and DD in year 6. All at a lovely prep school. So far so good....

However, by the ripe old age of 10, my DD has managed to become a rather excellent singer a consummate LAMDA exam taker and very talented hockey player, so all of my time is spent running her around to fixtures/ training/ concerts/ practices/ performances/ exams... you get the picture. DH is at rugby on Saturdays, so it is invariably me that does all the running around because he's either working or too tired on a Sunday. I just seem to spend my life in the car. This excludes all of the actual travel to and from the lovely prep (bloody miles away). Extra travel for all of the lovely things that they do that nice mummies actually turn up to an clap politely as they watch little Horatio murder a violin in cold blood. Plus all the lovely coffee dates- oh and you know, the actual job that I do... that I barely have time for.

The thing is, her lovely prep has encouraged DD to pursue these avenues having 'discovered' her talents- along with a million other things that if she had gone to the local primary, I'm pretty sure I would have been too smugly lazy to even think about. That is no reflection on state school mummies- I know some super-tiger ones.... but I would probably been awful and not even let her join recorder club because- well, who the fuck wants to listen to the fucking recorder.

So this is my life now, and I barely have time to think, let alone spend time polishing my turd enough to look acceptable in public.

I love the lovely prep.... but I think about how ridiculous it is now, and in a few years time I will have three actively participating in all of this shit. No doubt they will stumble upon some glorious talent that DS1 has that will involve me traversing the country, burning £50 notes and chucking them out of the car window as I go.

So, would it be unreasonable to just shout FUCK IT ALL, pull them out, stick them in the lovely, but not as lovely as lovely prep, primary and spend my evenings and weekends drinking very very cold wine and talking to my chickens?

Anybody else just feel like, as much as they love their DC's and their wonderful talents, they wish that they'd just never fucking encouraged them in the first place?

Time to pick one of your DD's interests and specialize in it?

Your DH needs to step up. So what if has rugby on a Saturday he can still do something surely.

Also they do not HAVE to participate in everything and you can chose to opt out.

I have friends with kids in state schools who actually do far more outside activities than our kids at private because they have the cash available to do so because they are not in fee paying education.

Surely most of your kids' activities you mention are run at school or after school.

There is no need whatsoever for Prep if you have halfway decent local schools. As to discovering talents they are pretty good at that too and there are shedloads of activities after school with school or local small businesses. She is yr 6 she is off to secondary soon - send her to board (all activities in house) and stick the other two in local - loads more free time. Sorted

You could always just say no to perusing her amazing talents in every single activity and restrict it to just one or two where she's truly ground breaking?

Congrats on being able to afford private school op. Oh how us great unwashed are in awe of you running around like that all of the time after your dc whilst ours play with used tampons in the street as we're too busy drinking stale cider and talking to our giros? Idk

State school mummy here (boak) but no I don't feel like that. Life is hectic with children but I want to encourage all talents and interests.

This is the life you chose for yourself.

Feel free to change things if you don't like it.

Erm, mine are in state primary and secondary and this is what my life looks like too! Although I have a DH and we share the activities out. And I still drink wine but no chickens to talk to.

Make your dh do his share. End of. And limit activities per child.

If it's any consolation, it's not that much to do with the school...some do just have to do every bloody thing on offer unless you step in. And it's usually a fairly in terms of years short term phase.

Yeah, fuck 'em. Shove 'em in the local ("eversolovelyhonestnotthatIhaveeeverloweredmyselftosetfootinit") primary, and definitely don't bother starting on that comic novel.

Yes. All of us with plenty, talentless, state educated children luxuriate in our hours of spare time, whilst our children fester in front of Nick Jr..Hmm

YABU and stuck up. My darling offspring have me run ragged with dance, swimming, rugby, singing, art club and various performances. Despite being at a lovely, but clearly not so lovely as your fee paying idyll, primary school. I must be doing this "commoning" all wrong. How silly of me.

Are you on of those cringe-inducing mummy bloggers?

My DD slummed it at the local state primary and lots of her friends did gymnastics, tennis, dance, drama, music, sports. It's not a prep thing, it's a natural part of childhood.

Sure, take your super talented daughter out of the Lovely Prep and join the drooling masses at state schools who don't bother with extracurricular activities and nurturing their child's interests because, well, the proles don't bother with that kind of thing, do they?

You so obviously have a dh problem and nothing else I wonder why you are posting. If you are genuine, get him to ditch the rugby OR the sitting on his arse day. He can't have both while you have no free time.

I would think it a mistake to imagine these activities wouldn't happen with them at the state primary. It's lovely that dd has hobbies but maybe she should whittle it down now. If nothing else so that her brothers get a look in!
