I know it's not the most devastating thing in the world- people live through worse...but...

We have four house cats. One of them has somehow escaped (kitchen window, we think).

We've been calling him all day and shaking his food, but he's still gone!

Will he be ok out there? He's a house cat- n9t used to going out!

He's now been missing for 24 hours.

I hope you find him..

My neighbours cat went missing and returned after one month - didn't seem any thinner either!

My mums cat went missing for 4 days and returned pregnant!

Mine went missing several times when he was younger- found over a busy road and was returned, locked in next doors house setting off the alarm and went in the house opposite to look for food but then hid as he was scared of the dog. Came back safe each time but it is nerve racking. We leafleted and went out at night when it was quieter so we could hear him and he could hear us. Good luck

About 4 weeks ago our cat disappeared for a week. Straight away we knew he hadnt gone of his own accord, he would never miss a meal. Through the power of local Facebook pages and our constant missing posts, we found him. He was outside a primary school about a mile and a half away! We think he definitely got in a car or van and got taken by mistake probably a Tesco delivery van or similar! Also about 9 years ago a previous cat went missing for about 3 weeks and just came running in one day. So lots of hope for you, and am sure they'll be back soon x

One of our cats has escaped several times. The longest was for 9 days. I had prepared for the worst. I came down one morning to find her grooming herself on the sofa. Completely non-plussed and as if nothing had happened.

I hope your cat does the same.

my boy managed to escape out a window a few months ago, I did the calling/searching/tin shaking thing.

He showed up 4 days later outside my neighbours at 2am and they grabbed him to hand him back!

Thank you!!

He's a spayed male, so no risk of pregnancy 😅

I know I sould like an idiot, crying over a missing cat, but I'm pre-menstrual, I've had a SHIT week, and now this.

One of our cats went missing and after 8 weeks of searching and hoping I announced to DH that I couldn't bear being cat-less and I was going to ring the local rescue to get a new cat.
I opened the local paper to get the phone number, heard a tapping noise, looked up and my cat was on the windowsill.

No idea where he had been, he was thinner, but not starving. We joke that he'd heard I was replacing him and legged it home from wherever he'd been.

My sister had a cat disappear when we were children. We called and called, searched everywhere and nope. Nada. After a week my parents got her another one as she was devestated. Another week later and original cat turned up.

We think she got shut in somewhere when someone went on holiday. Other than being thin and hoarse, she was fine. Have any of your neighbour's gone on holiday?

One of mine went missing for 10 days, he wasn't a house cat though. Keeping fingers crossed he returns soon.

I do hope you find him.

I do have a cheering story. My friend's elderly, much loved cat was missing for a month. She searched for ages and had a couple of scares from people who'd found a dead cat matching the description. He's now home and perfectly happy (though his brother was, apparently, meowing like mad when he was finally found!).

As a house cat he's likely to be very close to home but hiding in fear. Try going out now with a torch so their eyes reflect back at you and look under hedges, bushes etc. They could be very close but too frightened to come to you.

Our indoor cat disappeared from our third floor flat and reappeared 7 weeks later only a little bit worse for wear!

My mil cats do this all the time, and they almost always get shut in one of the neighbours garages or sheds. Might be worth a check? Really hope he turns up xx

Harry I'm on the third floor too! I purposely missed that out for fear of being flamed (irrisponsible leaving the window open etc, etc).

My mum's cat disappeared (was seen being chased by local bully cat), we put posters everywhere but nothing.
A year later I was walking in the next road and the cat was sitting in a front garden! She had a silent cry and when she saw me she opened her mouth and did her silent cry. Very thin but 100% same cat. Got my mum and went straight back - the house owner said he'd been feeding her as she was stray and happily let us bring her home. There was still a poster on the lamp post right outside his house Hmm
So she came home. Not quite a happy ending though - she had a series of fits the next day and vet said she was riddled with cancer and had to be put to sleep. Our only comfort was she died in comfort not out on her own.
She was less than 100 metres from our house but unable to find her way back.

My cat went missing for 4/5 months and turned up one day like nothing had happened 🙄

One of ours went for a week. Disappeared on a Sunday. Exactly a week later she came back, slightly thinner and scuffed claws. We think she has been locked in a garage or somewhere people only opened at the weekend.

Don't lose hope. Put up signs, put posts on local Facebook pages. Record on pets located.

I hope your wee cat turns up ❤️

Weather has been unseasonably warm here, and I e had both shed & garage open for long periods today and had to chase one of my own cats out before I locked up ... please leaflet all your neighbours (front/back/side/3-street radius) because he could well be shut in somewhere.

Hope he turns up safe OP. You can also empty your litter tray in your garden to give a familiar scent to aim for.

Put some litter from his tray outside. Sprinkle it about a bit and shake his bed, or whatever he sleeps on, outside. That may help him find his way back home.

One of mine has gone missing twice. Once for about 2 weeks. She'd wandered too far I think, and tried to set up home with a very nice man who carried her round to the vets in his arms when she didn't bugger off after a few days. The second time she went missing for about 6 months. Again, wandered off (to the same area as the first time) and in a long a complicated story ended up being rescued by the POLICE from a flat! She was in the community police newsletter Grin.

8 days mine was gone for. He turned up skinny with a dislocated hip. Seems he was stuck somewhere and squeezed his way out

When our cat goes missing it is very often because he's got shut in somewhere. Have you or any neighbours had a shed or garage open today?

My cat went missing for 5 months!

She came back thin and limping and covered in ticks. We never found out what happened.

I hopefully your cat turns up.

A friend's cat went missing for 9 months (honestly!) then turned up about quarter of a mile away one day. I think she got a call from the rspca or a vet or something (cat was microchipped)!

Report
MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 24/09/2017 21:40

Try going out and calling quietly now it's dark. Sometimes they hole up somewhere and don't come out and find their way back until everything goes quiet at night.

One of ours was gone for two weeks, we'd given up all hope when she found her way home and shouted in the garden about five am, and the entire family collided on the landing rushing down to open the door for her. She was very thin but fine. Either she was lost and took time to find her way home, or got herself shut in somewhere.

If there's no sign in the morning ring every vet in the area and check, and the rescue centres in case they're brought in; people will often take a stray or an injured cat to their local place rather than yours. I tracked another one of mine down that way in 24 hours having walked the streets in the area all night calling him, and it was a vet at the far side of town that had him.

Fingers tightly crossed for you. Flowers
