AIBU?

Sad Face in the paper.

There's a story in a local rag about someone who's freezer has broken down. Apparently they had frozen 100 ounces of breast milk which had to be thrown out and is apparently 3 months worth?

Apparently £30 comp wasn't enough, cue sad faces and a story to the paper.

AIBU to think that the amount of people complaining to newspapers in an effort to get additional compensation is on the rise? And completely ridiculous?

2/10 for the sad faces, they're not convincing at all!

Kent online , is ridiculous , everyday it is full of crap , non stories . Yesterday it was a woman who had got a fine for not paying the DART charge because she had put the wrong registration on the payment , it's really not newsworthy . The comments often make interesting reading though .

Birdsgottafly · 24/09/2017 19:57

"Apparently £30 comp wasn't enough,"

Well it wasn't, goods sold should be fit for purpose and in the case of a Fridge/Freezer, there is going to be a loss.

The other freezer for £80 more should have just been given. Instead they've had their reputation damaged and had to part with £150.

Some of them are ridiculous, but I think in this case, she was right to pursue it.

After continually pumping to have to just swap to formula must be upsetting.

Sounds like nonsense. She is sad because she has had to top up her baby with formula? Why not just express more and freeze it again?

Winteriscomingneedmorewood · 24/09/2017 20:16

What was she hoping for? 30 women each carrying a bag of breast milk for her at the door?

JonSnowsWife · 24/09/2017 20:19

YNBU!

Alittlepotofrosie · 24/09/2017 20:22

If shes pumped 3 months supply to freeze in the 4 months of her daughter's life, plus what she's giving her daughter daily then it seems she hasn't got supply issues, so just pump more. Stupid woman.

piknmixer · 24/09/2017 20:25

100 oz is five pints. Three months worth? Really?

Sugarcoma · 24/09/2017 21:01

Actually in this case she's not being unreasonable at all. I would be fucking livid.

If you've not spent time hooked up to a pump like a bloody cow every three hours throughout the day and night while your baby is crying but you can't hold them because of the cones strapped to your tits and all you wish for is that BF was as easy for you as it seems to be for everyone else you see but your baby will not/can not latch then you don't know how utterly crushing it is to see one drop of breast milk wasted.

SpareChangeDownTheSofa · 24/09/2017 21:02

I think it was bad that the freezer broke down but there are several things weird:

  1. They paid extra for an install but a freezer is just a plug and go thing, right?

  2. Why did she have to take the milk out of whatever she was keeping it in? She said she wanted notice so she could take everything out or something.

  3. No way is 100oz 3 months worth.

  4. Why not just pump more? If she is able to make a ''3 month'' supply and feed her daughter, clearly she isn't having any troubles producing.

  5. She is complaining about formula and says ''breast is best'' like she is now going to have to poison her kid, never mind how those who can't produce feel Hmm

I don't think this needs to turn into ANOTHER breast milk vs formula debate, which is what it looks like you're after since your last comment Hmm they always end badly

balsamicbarbara · 24/09/2017 21:10

Seems pointless if she's freezing it anyway as it losses all the goodness.

SpareChangeDownTheSofa · 24/09/2017 21:10

No, not after that at all. That's just what I got from the report; I think you do what you want to do, but its not fair on people who can't breast feed to put comments like that in the newspaper IYSWIM

Daydreamerbynight · 24/09/2017 21:13

Nope. Not looking to turn this into a breast v formula debate at all Hmm

SpareChangeDownTheSofa · 24/09/2017 21:14

I'm really not, couldn't give a shite about what people feed their babies to be honest.

I'm just more interested in this culture of claiming and using the newspaper to get more.

Oh dear, their compo faces could all use some work. The bloke looks like he's just shat himself.

Sunnysidegold · 24/09/2017 21:17

I might be a bit dim as it's ages since I bought a freezer but do you not have to leave them on to cool down properly once you plug them in?

Daydreamerbynight · 24/09/2017 21:18

Balsamicbarbra, freezing breastmilk looses some antioxidants, but still retains a lot. Definitely not pointless! Smile

Daydreamerbynight · 24/09/2017 21:20

Fair enough Sparechange, I understand what you mean in general. It does happen a lot!

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 24/09/2017 21:22

The extra you pay for an install means that the delivery company should carry it to its final position in the kitchen as opposed to dumping it by your front door which is the standard. It says they dumped it in the dining room so presumably the couple had to drag it through to the kitchen - freezers are big heavy things and not easy to move especially without damaging your floor in the process. Sometimes you also have to install the shelves inside too which are packaged separately. Not just a case of plugging it in. If she'd paid for them to install it, then she had every right to complain when they didn't.
Bit of a non story really but I imagine they wanted to name and shame Currys to vent their frustration.

No problem :) It was just one of many things I noticed but overall the main thing I wanted to discuss was the trend of compo faces and the way it happens so much its an in joke here! (Like telling people to do a DM sad face) Grin
