AIBU?

To go into work with an upset stomach?

Not to be TMI, but 2 lots. With stomach cramps...? I don't have any bowel issues. Might need to go again, but it isn't constant and work in a supermarket, so not too bad.

There's food in a supermarket. You shouldn't.

I have a savage cold with D&V. No one to cover my shift so I have to go in tonight.

I feel savage and I'm dreading it.

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

That's the thing, they are already short staff in tonight and I've already got a text saying that it's only me and the team leader (it's a local supermarket (Tesco Express for example))

Absolutely you shouldn’t go.

It doesn’t even matter if there’s no one to cover your shift, unless you work entirely alone and there’s no chance of passing it on. Don’t be so selfish.

How am I being selfish? I get paid for sitting at home. Hardly selfish to want to go in because you're the only CA that's in.

Wtf?? Those of you saying "I should be fine" and"sometimes you do what you have to do". Actually no you don't. If you have d and v then you should not be out spreading it to others. Especially working in a supermarket where lots of people pass through ffs. It's not all about you. There are people out there with immunity problems where catching this could result in hospital admission. I have emetophobia and it is people like you who say "Ah sod it" who make it all worse. If you are ill you are ill and you don't go to work. It is not your problem if the company you work for don't have contingencies for sickness.

So why are you asking on here if you are being unreasonable? Most people know you keep your d and v to yourself.

Report
witchofzog · 24/09/2017 14:35

It IS bloody selfish. You WILL be passing this onto your customers Hmm

Dont be a martyr or selfish - you could make someone with a very impaired immune system very ill! Keep it to yourself...

I do. I called in sick this morning, they called back and said no cover.

Hoping I can mostly dodge the ressies and do cleaning and paperwork while gulping fluids.

A care home?! You’re in the wrong job if you think nothing if goobg in with d and v.

Surprising really, I always thought you were a sensible one from previous posts.

I work in a shop and I'd go 100% ive never missed work due to illness.

You said you have 2 lots and no bowel problems so assuming sickness? Just because you don't have the loose bowels it doesn't mean you don't have a highly contagious bug which would give others either just sickness or both

Snap8TheCat · 24/09/2017 14:40

That’s nothing to be proud of Lottey.

If you have a stomach upset you should not go to work if you have to handle food ., If what you have can be caught by another person then you could cause some people with compromised immune systems huge problems. I would not want to eat food if I knew the person selling it had been ill. When I worked in a food store years ago I was told not to go in if I had any sort of stomach upset and to wait for 48 hours after the last symptoms before attending. Food stores get into huge problems legally if staff pass on certain illnesses, and you don't know what you have. Best to stop home and tell your employer what is wrong with you.

So you would be proud of retaining your 100 percent attendance Lottey even if you had d & v? You would be proud of passing it onto young children and frail elderly as long as you keep your good sickness record? Words fail me at how selfish and short sighted people can be

Report
Lottey90 · 24/09/2017 14:43

I'm quite proud of the fact 🤷🏼‍♀️ I've never suffered with d and v though
