AIBU?

Have just run a half-marathon

Just finished a half-marathon with a couple of friends.

Not really sure I want to repeat the experience anytime soon. Shock

AIBU to ask you to convince me that I should properly get into running? What are the benefits? (Apart from the fact that I can be more greedy and eat more if I take up running properly Grin)

Well done. You have completed an experience that millions of people physically or mentally never could. Which makes you think... would you like to prove that you remain in that group? Do it again sometime.

Congratulations! If it was hard, dial things back a bit. Do a few runs of 3-4 miles at a gentle pace, build it up a couple of miles at a time. Get a fitness tracker (Fitbit/Harmon or similar, I have a Polar watch and heart monitor which I love), and get a pair of Bluetooth headphones so you're not encumbered. Drink plenty of water before you run (but not immediately before), get some toe socks to stop you getting blisters, and eat something like a boiled egg, spinach and ryvita an hour of so before you go. It will keep getter by easier!

Ooh you must be in my neck of the woods.

I'm always massively impressed with anyone who can run a long distance and commit to training etc. Go for it, you've done brilliantly.

Congratulations! I have my first one in March. Furthest I've run so far is just over 9 miles. What time did you do? I am very slow.

My neck of the woods too! We were there cheering you all on. I was so impressed by everybody - it was such a long way and a bit too hot today too! Well done.

And TheStoic is right... you are already a serious runner. It made me feel ashamed of my Couch to 5k efforts so far.

Aww thanks ignatius! Thanks so much for being there to spur everyone on. The atmosphere was absolutely amazing - there were so many people there cheering everyone on and someone was playing Chariots of Fire as we did the first couple of miles 😂

It was really hot though! Much warmer than I was expecting.

I'd be about 2.30 maybe just under, I think, so I think that's brilliant. You probably walk faster than I run Grin
