To find Justin Trudeau a nauseating poser?

I remember seeing a film about the competitive world of american cheerleaders.

One chant went like this: "We're sexy!, We're hot! We're everything you're not!"

I loved that wit, especially the juxtaposition of self promotion and diminishing the opponent.

It's not enough to praise your own merits. To really make yourself stand out, you have to put everyone else down.

There are many examples of what I'd call Juxta-posers in modern life.

They sing their own praises, and try to widen the morality gap further by implying you are some sort of reactionary yokel.

For example, we were talking about a mutual acquaintance at work who happens to be gay. Our office poser at work says: "He's gay. But I haven't got a problem with that."

As if to imply I did!

Strike a Pose! Vogue!

Of course, I was too dim to be able to articulate why this made me angry. It took me ages to spot the subtle way it was insinuated that The Office Poser was good and that I was a troglodyte! I'm more of an 'esprits d'escalier' type. In fact, words often don't come to me until three weeks later, never mind on the staircase.

Which brings me on to Justin Trudeau.

He's the worst Juxta-Poser ever. In the latest example of his Vogueing, he condemns men for, wait for it, 'Bro Culture'. He then goes on to lecture 'men' that they have to follow his example and be great feminists. Like him.

(What he was really saying was "look at me everybody. Just look at me!"). What an utterly cynical, selfish little creep.

What on earth is Bro Culture? If there is something like that, I've never been informed. I'm clearly not on the mailing list of 'The Patriarchy', because I never seem to get any updates on the manly conspiracy to control the world.

What annoys me about Trudeau is that he's demonising other men, just so he can look good by comparison.

I never trust men who declare themselves a feminist. Surely that's an accreditation that has to be earned anyway. You can't just appoint yourself can you? Isn't there an examining board?

Don't get me wrong, I am slowly being educated by feminism and I don't wet the bed about it any more (well not as much anyway) but I can't hack show boating male feminists.

What a ghastly poser this man is. I hope it all ends badly for him.

To quote another chant from those American cheer leaders: "That's alright, that's OK, but you're gonna pump our gas some day."

Am I being unreasonable to not like Trudeau, his straw man arguments and his ghastly moral exhibitionism?

Advice puh-lease!

Dunno but I want to watch Bring It On now. Fab film.

OhThisbloodyComputer · 23/09/2017 17:02

That was it, Bring It On.

The Americans are brilliant at insulting people, it has to be said

'THAT'S ALRIGHT, THAT'S OK, YOU'RE GONNA PUMP OUR GAS SOME DAY!'

Sorry. Love that film.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/09/2017 17:07

YANBU. He is very pretty but he doesn't care as much about women's rights as he is always telling us.

EamonnWright · 23/09/2017 17:09

He's just another hypocrite. Claims to be a Feminist yet supplies arms to Saudi Arabia.

File under Populist.

Grimbles · 23/09/2017 17:13

Yeah, you are right.

Still would though.

intimeandspace · 23/09/2017 17:17

Ghastly showboating prick of he highest order. And those fucking SOCKS. Pride socks, Eid socks- you'd have to fight that one for space at the bathroom mirror. Rage.

Haha true! He also has a love in with the Irish Taoiseach simply because Leo is gay, having him over for the pride parade socks on full view etc.

The whole time the Taoiseach is a massive right wing arsehole, regardless of sexuality.

claraschu · 23/09/2017 17:21

His environmental record is what makes me sceptical...not great!

On the other hand, when I consider TM and T*ump, he starts to look pretty good.

WorraLiberty · 23/09/2017 17:24

I read the title as "To find Justin Trudeau a nauseating poster? "

I had no idea he'd joined Mumsnet Shock Grin

Lethaldrizzle · 23/09/2017 17:27

Bro culture is where they put the interests of men before women, - bros before hos, -any man who is against that is hero in my book. God forbid he should encourage other men to be feminists! Outrageous!

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 23/09/2017 17:37

Difficult to say really. I can't really get past how hot he is.

EamonnWright · 23/09/2017 17:39

Yet he is best mates with the Irish PM simply because he's gay. Or is that OK?

whippetwoman · 23/09/2017 17:43

I'm sure you're right but he is extremely hot, which I also am having trouble getting past. I guess that makes me sexist. Sorry.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/09/2017 17:48

And this is why they shouldn't let men be politicians Sad

OhThisbloodyComputer · 23/09/2017 17:48

@Lethaldrizzle

I wasn't aware there is any formal movement to put men's interests before women. I suppose Saudi Arabia would be an obvious case. Although, oddly, Trudeau doesn't seem to have any objections there.

Bro Culture just sounds like a silly catch phrase to me.

Have you seen the boxing pictures? Holy Hell.

Apileofballyhoo · 23/09/2017 17:51

YANBU

OhThisbloodyComputer · 23/09/2017 17:52

@whippetwoman

Your objectification of men is demeaning.

We have brains too.

Nettletheelf · 23/09/2017 17:52

He is an arse. It's the studied, fake sincere facial expression that repulses me most.

OhThisbloodyComputer · 23/09/2017 17:59

A significant sample size seems to be taken in by his looks.

Other seemingly intelligent people have been taken in by his empty rhetoric and Aunt Sally arguments.

I'm surprised by this. But what the hell, if this works, who am I to argue?

Might as well go with what the market wants. So:

Death to Bro Culture!
Smash the Patriarchy!
Get your knickers off love, I'm a feminist!

Yeah, I'm not very up on my politics, but I have a nagging feeling that him and Varadkar are complete ass-wipes, but because they are young and Not Trump they seem much more like they represent you and I. As a pp stated, populism with another face.

Poser is right, I don’t believe a word he says! I’m more inline with the Conservative party so his backtracking sometimes is fine.

theancientmarinader · 23/09/2017 18:13

Meh. I found his political style refreshing in the face of the usual slag everyone off and prop up the status quo/ sleaze/ fuck everyone if they aren't a white male albertan rhetoric.
I can't say I'm that bothered by the 'posing' - it's boring media spin for the most part. I'm just mildly disappointed by the fact he seems a bit more vacuous than he seemed as a campaigner. It seemed to start well enough with some actual concrete attempts towards equality in politics and disturbing the comfort of old white dudes, and the recent moves towards more of a two nation state, and hopefully renewed interest in sorting out indigenous matters gives me a bit of hope. I would still rather see the emphasis on positive politics rather than the yelling and destruction though.
I can't actually vote though. So my opinion is neither here nor there.

OhThisbloodyComputer · 23/09/2017 18:26

@theancientmarinader

Thanks for that. That's given me a wider perspective. So he's like a mini Blair. Starts off as a breath of fresh air, then becomes an air sole.

I'm a bit worried about your seeming antipathy towards 'white males'. Trudeau is a white male isn't he?

Don't tell me he identifies as a cherokee.
