AIBU?

Bake off only for age 16+?!!

Watching the bake off last night with my kids, 8 and 6 on catch up. The annoying thing about it all now it's on c4 is that you obviously have to watch the adverts. No worries, we're all sitting there in our PJs with our Jamie dodgers.

Second advert break in comes an advert for 'snowman' film. Now, let me update you if you don't know what I mean, it's not the one we are all familiar with in this house (walking in the air!), oh no, it's a new film, focussing apparently on the story of bodies being found in the snow, headless. The advert is not subtle, and is not short. My kids eyes were out on stalks. Angry

So I emailed c4 to let them know this wasn't the best. They just got back to me - apparently watching anything on demand is only for 16 year olds or older, so they reserve the right to show anything they like.

What do people think? I thought bake off was a 'family show'? Won't be watching it again with my kids, well done c4...

It is true that you have to be 16 or older to watch C4 on demand.

Record it and then fast forward the adverts. No dodgy adverts and you get 15 mins of your life back

Just record and skip the ads.

Well All 4 does ask you to click a box to confirm you are over 16 when you watch stuff.

And it is on at 8pm on a school night, it's hardly being marketed as for primary age children...

I'm wondering why you wouldn't fast forward the adverts...
But I doubt the snowman advert was on for the real deal- was it?

There's a disclaimer anytime you watch 4OD? Or whatever it's called now. Shocked that you actually emailed though

You can't fast forward when you're watching catch up so not really an option. Am assuming they wouldn't have put that advert on before 9pm, it was not good.

I also don't have a way of recording it and then fast forwarding it, I'm watching on an Amazon firestick...

You can't fast forward the ads on catch up

Kids still talking about it today...
Emailing was easy - probably similar to how much effort it took you to post on mumsnet -not sure why that's shocking?

I think you'll find the Bake Off was on after 21:00. So...watershed & kids & all that?
They shouldn't have been watching telly at that time anyway so you can't complain abouy anything. You should be more careful in the future.

I dont think YABU, i hate adverts like that at my age, some creep me out for ages afterwards. It really bugs me when they put them in places you arent expecting them!

I'm with you grass - the content of the show is entirely suitable for kids and the adverts should reflect that. I think it's great there's shows to watch that the whole family can enjoy.

What a shame they put an ad like that on the catch up version.

Yes, the 16+ is to do with 4OD, it has nothing to do with Bake Off itself.

You're getting free shit off a Firestick and think it's ok to email a complaint in Confused

Use a TV recorder box. Haven't seen an ad in years.

Yeah - after second episode I switched to recording it precisely so we could skip any ads because the catch-up unskippable adverts were inappropriate for DC, who we watch it with.

I think ads should reflect the content of the show you're currently watching. If nothing else, it makes better sense from a marketing POV.

Hm we watched both bake off and extra slice on catch-up, but via Virgin Media, and we can skip through the ads. secondly this week we noticed how short most of the ads breaks on GBBO were (10 sec) so I guess the offending content had been removed. I definitely recall no scary ads - but DD is an absolute expert at fast forwarding through them.

Last time I looked channel 4 was free for everyone? Firestick isn't some illegal download thing, it's a way if watching Amazon prime on your tv, as part of it you can watch lots of channels catch up ConfusedHmm

I'm with you op. My kids love gbbo.

We start watching it at 815 then fast forward adverts. Watch signature dish and technical on Tues then showstopper on weds.

It's too long/ late for us to watch in one go.
