AIBU?

AIBU to ask about your hand washing habits

I know this is going to make some people furious, but does everyone, honestly always wash their hands after going to the loo? I definitely don't after a wee, and (to my shame) even loiter a couple of seconds extra in other people's bathrooms so they'll think I have. The exception is I ALWAYS wash my hands in public toilets - because of the public shame!

Tell me I'm not alone

That's gross!

Can I ask why you don't wash your hands? I mean, if you're loitering anyway, why not do it?

I wash my hands every single time, without exception.

why do you loiter doing nothing when you should could be washing your hands?

the one and only time I don't is in the middle of the night if I have a wee. Other than that every.single.time.

No I always do. It's just automatic - why wouldn't you?

I always wash my hands after every visit to the toilet. At home, friends or in public toilets. I see no point in loitering in a bathroom pretending to wash my hands.

Always, I work in a hospital so I couldn't imagine not

I wash my hands every single time. It's just foul not to. And WHY do you "loiter" to pretend you've washed when you could just actually do it?

I wash my hands after using the loo and every time I come into the house and before I eat. I never get stomach bugs.

Why don't you? It's absolutely disgusting not to.

Every single time. Why would you not?

You've just touched your bum (germs pass through toilet paper) and you dont wash your hands and then go and touch other people and other things and spread germs everywhere.

That's disgusting. If you wait to make people think you did it, why dont you just do it?

I don't know. I don't feel that they're dirty, but I do feel people will judge me for not - correctly by the look of it.

I also never get stomach bugs, or many other bugs at all!

In my own house I don't - in other people's houses, in work etc I do every time

Always. With soap. Every time.

Honestly, it's disgusting that you don't, especially if you're loitering in there anyway why on earth wouldn't you?!

AfunaMbatata · 21/09/2017 16:25

But what about the shit and piss that your hands are spreading around everywhere? Do you wash before you eat at least?

I'm really shocked .

I do same OP. Always after a number two but rarely after a one unless it's public toilets so I'm touching stuff other people have. I guess at home I know my bathroom is clean and I'm clean and urine is sterile so I don't see the need really to wash my hands after a wee. I'll wash them before making food obviously but if I'm just going back to my normal business I don't bother.

I suspect you'll get a LOT of outraged disgusted comments here saying they can't believe anyone doesn't wash their hands after the loo, when in reality research has shown that a lot of people don't. People are just too ashamed to mention it, or feel they'll be shamed by others so loudly proclaim of course they do and anyone who doesn't is gross.

""People may claim they wash their hands regularly but the science shows otherwise," says QMUL's Dr Ron Cutler, who led the study.
The British are particularly bad, other research suggests. Many of us also lie and claim we have washed our hands when we haven't, especially after going to the toilet.
In a recent UK-wide study, 99% of people interviewed at motorway service stations toilets claimed they had washed their hands after going to the toilet. Electronic recording devices revealed only 32% of men and 64% of women actually did."

Yes. I work in a Reception class and you wouldn't believe the number of children who march about saying "my mum doesn't make me wash my hands when I go to the toilet". I daresay it's nonsense but anyone not washing their hands above the age of 5 is a bit vile, tbh, because by that age you know well enough that you're going to make yourself or others unwell if you don't.

Yes I do since a child. I rarely eat homemade food from people as I am worried they may not be handwashers.

Why would you choose not to wash your hands when soap and water are available?

Report
FadedRed · 21/09/2017 16:30

Urine is not sterile, neither is your perineum, the toilet flush and the door handle. Especially after you have touched them with your dirty hands.

Report
GameOldBirdz · 21/09/2017 16:31

I rarely wash my hands after a wee at home. Always wash after a poo at home.

Always, always, always wash super-well anywhere that's not my house even if it's just a wee. I also always use a square of loo paper to touch taps, lights, door handles etc. anywhere that's not my home.

I wash my hands for a minimum of 30 seconds in the hottest water I can stand and make sure I do my wrists, under my rings, under my nails etc.
