AIBU?

To think that only daily mail readers buy clothes from m&s?

I'm sure m&s are paying the mail to promote their rubbish. I presume that marks want to appeal the over 50s/60s right winger with their "look".

OP posts:

Considering the DM is one of the highest read tabloids.....

Presumably read by you also, otherwise how would you know ow about their advertising

EB123 · 20/09/2017 11:59

I don't read that rag and have some clothes from M&S, i'm 33. My mum is mid 60's buys bits in their too, also not a DM reader!

DarceyBusselsNose · 20/09/2017 11:59

Are you in Corbyn Corduroy OP?

ponderingprobably · 20/09/2017 12:01

I don't read the Daily Mail. Glance at it now and again if an article is linked or something, but that's about it.

I do shop at M&S, sometimes, though, mainly because it is easy. Other than that I go to Debenhams. Not much choice where I live. If I need clothes I get frustrated if I have to trawl shops and battle through messy rails and squashed up changing rooms. If I go when it is quiet M&S is usually ok.

Maudlinmaud · 20/09/2017 12:03

Dm do not influence my purchases from M&S.

EBearhug · 20/09/2017 12:04

VU.

I buy stuff in M&S (it fits me, although I appear to be the only one in the country it does.) I am very definitely not a DM reader.

honeyroar · 20/09/2017 12:05

OP with a headline and a post like at you sound like the bloody daily mail!

I like M&S, I buy a fair bit from it. Obviously lots of other peolple do, it's always full of people and it keeps going!!

Maudlinmaud · 20/09/2017 12:06

But YANBU to think M&S are paying the DM to promote their wares. They clearly state sponsor on the articles. Very is also doing this.

MerryMarigold · 20/09/2017 12:08

Yabu obv. I was in the daily mail once but I don't read it. I occasionally buy m & s, for kids and husband mostly. Have few bits myself.

BeatriceBeaudelaire · 20/09/2017 12:12

22 here, ultimate lefties and i buy M&S Blush

Twistmeandturnme · 20/09/2017 12:17

I don't need the Daily Fail to tell me that M+S knickers have the best bottom coverage for my vast behind.

YABVU. I read the DM along with the Independent, the Guardian and the Telegraph, but I don't buy the horrors that pass for clothes at M & S.

Dahlietta · 20/09/2017 12:51

What a weird thread.

Chapwithwings · 20/09/2017 12:56

I'm not a DM reader at all being one of those awful liberal lefties. The menswear always looks reasonable if a little middle of the road but I have absolutely no idea what demographic they're chasing with their womenswear. It's back to the 70's but not in a good way

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 20/09/2017 12:59

I'm 32, I LOVE M&S! Admittedly they do have some questionable items but so does every shop I've ever been into.

AuntieStella · 20/09/2017 13:00

Depressing to see an ageist assumption (again) on MN.

It's not compulsory to dress differently just because you've had a particular birthday.

blueskyinmarch · 20/09/2017 13:04

What a weird thread.

My DP's are DM readers and are in their 70's. They sometimes shop at M&S and sometimes shop elsewhere.

I am a Times reader in my 50's. Sometimes i shop at M&S and sometimes i shop elsewhere.

I have no idea why what paper you read would have anything to do with where you shop.

Tiredtomybones · 20/09/2017 13:05

Early 40s here, not a DM reader and sitting unpacking my latest M&S delivery. It's a mix of Christmas presents, autumn clothes for the DC and treats for me. Love their stuff. I can't for the life of me work out how the Sparks scheme works, but that's a question for a different day.

LouiseBrooks · 20/09/2017 13:07

I certainly don't read the Fail and barely buy anything from M&S any more. Cotton knickers maybe and (lots of) food.

Most of the clothes are hideous. It's weird because the homeware and furniture is pretty decent but then Laura Ashley is the same - vile clothes for the last 2 or 3 years and great bedding.

Incidentally, I was a teenager in the 1970s and clothes were not as bad as those in M&S now. They manage to be simultaneously garish and frumpy.

Lovingmybear2 · 20/09/2017 13:09

What a ridiculous thread.

I am 50 and nothing in M&S tempts me. I shop at urban outfitters and Jane Norman.

Not everyone over 50 is a right winger and obviously you are a daily mail reader yourself. Wink

That's like saying all Guardian readers buy their clothes in charity shops.

Sayyouwill · 20/09/2017 13:13

I've got plenty of stuff from M&S. buy loads of baby clothes from there and the bras and shoes are great.
It does cater across a vast age range, my 92 year old grandmother shops there too, so obviously not everything in the shop is aimed at me or my particular fashion but I have some great pieces from there.

Also definitely not a DM reader

Ipigglemustdie · 20/09/2017 13:14

Uabu. I read the Dm and hate M&S Grin
