Anyone else get just a little wound up by this?! Women who are 42 weeks calling themselves 10.5 months pregnant. Err no. You're 40 weeks from conception, 280 days, which equates to nine months and a tiny bit. I know pregnancy feels like a decade but come on.

How random. Can't say I've heard people say that, but would be Hmm if I did hear it!

"There aren't thirteen months in a year, nor 48 weeks."

How do people reach adulthood not knowing this stuff?

To distract you, consider this epic discussion of how many days there are in two weeks.

I'm feeling like I'm about 57 months pregnant at present only 39 weeks

Pregnancy/gestation is not counted from date of conception. It is counted from first day of last menstrual period. So YABU.

You mark my words, they will be the same women who go round telling everyone they have a "73 month old" later down the line.

No drip feed, just hear it a lot. Maybe it's an area thing.

I know that @Lapin but you're not actually pregnant at that point so it's not part of the actual length of miserable, miserable pregnancy. Even if it was it still doesn't make a full ten months!

meh

some countries date pregnancy from the day of conception, others (hello England) from the date of your last period! As long as you understand why everybody is talking about, who cares.

@Shotsfired Grin I am already desperately trying to work out how the fuck old their 35 week olds are in months, I can't cope.

Are they the ones that deduct 1,2,3,4 weeks because the baby came early? ie its a calendar 3 month old (12 weeks) but persist in referring to it as a 10 week old (shorter but perfectly normal gestation) >rolls eyes

I was pregnant for what felt like two years.

Though it does bug me when people month age their children. "How old is Janet?" "Oh she's 36 months" "aahh so she's 3" "yes, 36 months"

Just say she's feckin 3!!!!

Though I used to work with a girl (in early years no less) who thought there were 13 months in the year because you get 13 child benefit payments. All the times she did months of the year with the children and said 13 months to them, despite being told it was 12. She thought October was a longer month to make up for the leap year.

Have you ever been 2 weeks overdue?
It fucking sucks!

Report
upsetanddontknowwhattodo · 20/09/2017 12:00

It's actually 38 weeks from conception, they add on the two weeks as they measure roughly from the first day of your last period (you usually conceive approx 2 weeks later)

No I have never heard anyone say they are 10 and a half months pregnant either.

NINE and a half months maybe. But then you would be induced because they would not let you go longer than that.

These people you hear who say it, are probably the same fruit loops who think the earth is flat, and there are 13 months in a year. (And yes, I have heard people say there are 13 months in a year. They are most insistent there are actually, even when confronted with concrete evidence that there are, in fact 12 months in the year! 😂😂😂 )

@Brittbugs80 That bugs me too when people say 'she is 29 months old!' So 2 years and 5 months old then!

We don't say we are 468 months old if we're nearly 40 do we?!!! Confused

I was living in France and was just shy of 44 weeks when I had my first. Never would say I was 10 months pregnant, sounds weird!

@ivy79 i might start saying my age in months. 396 months. Almost.

Never heard anyone say this.

I have, however, been pregnant for at least three years (or at least it feels like it Shock).

@jaseyraex I would forgive you if you did, at least it would be accurate! I've never met anyone who's gone longer than 42 and a bit weeks here. I meet a lot of new mums in my line of work and I swear at least half of them who've been 42 weeks refer to themselves as having been ten and a half months gone, and ten months at 40 weeks. Like I said maybe it's a weird area thing.
