AIBU?

To think cats can't "stand"?!

NC as I will show this to DH to vindicate my rightness Grin

I just asked DH where the cat was - "she's standing at the front gate" apparently Hmm

Is it just me, or can cats not actually stand? Only people with two legs can stand, surely. Cats can't stand. DH is clearly BU.

What would we say instead of standing, though?

Don't let me down MNers. Cats can't stand. Or can they?

You're daft. Horses & dogs can stand too. It's not restricted to creatures with only 2 legs.

DoesAnyoneReadTheseThings · 19/09/2017 08:39

What do people with one leg do?

YesItsMeIDontCare · 19/09/2017 08:39

??? What's she doing then if she's not standing? How would you describe it? She's upright... her legs are straight... what's that if it's not standing?

CatsCantStand · 19/09/2017 08:40

You guys aren't helping. AngryGrin

Maybe I won't show this to DH. Smile

Well what else would you call it? The cat is not sitting, not lying down. You'd say it was walking or running, just on 4 legs instead of 2. Why not standing?

Penny4UrThoughts · 19/09/2017 08:40

Of course they stand. They just do it on four paws rather than two feet.

Pacificplaza · 19/09/2017 08:40

But there's a difference between them standing and sitting! So if the cat's not standing, what's it doing when it's not sitting?

CatsCantStand · 19/09/2017 08:42

Oh fuck you all Grin

MrsJayy · 19/09/2017 08:42

Eh what eh ? Of course cats and other animals stand if they are not standing what are they doing

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 19/09/2017 08:44

Food can stand to cool and that doesn't have any legs so I imagine that extra legs wouldn't be an impediment to standing.

MrsJayy · 19/09/2017 08:44

No no let the thread STAND so we can all see how dim you are Grin

Pacificplaza · 19/09/2017 08:44

Grin I can just imagine your DH slowly shaking his head at you in bafflement...

existentialmoment · 19/09/2017 08:45

My cat also stands on his 2 back legs. Which is kind of freaky.

If you said it's not standing, what did you say it is instead?

CatsCantStand · 19/09/2017 08:45

But if she was standing on her back legs at the gate, I agree she would be standing. On all fours though? Surely not standing.

I realise it would help my case if I actually had a word for what she was doing, that wasn't "standing".

Grin

Flounce with no dignity OP

Of course cats can stand

FruBayerischOla · 19/09/2017 08:46

Are you somewhere in the world where it's evening at the moment and you've had a few too many sherbets? Grin

Sorry, but your DH is right!!

EleanorAbernathy · 19/09/2017 08:46

What's this one doing?

To think cats can't "stand"?!
HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 19/09/2017 08:46

I agree Op. Cats are majestically immobile. Or imperially static.
Or standing for short Grin

InThisTogether · 19/09/2017 08:47

I have 3 cats standing on the bed right now.
OP please in the interest of fairness show this to your DH and let us know his reaction!

Pacificplaza · 19/09/2017 08:47

Don't worry, there have been a couple of things that I've been convinced were the case which in fact, given just a tiny bit more thought were clearly ridiculous. I might start a thread about it actually

ColossalKalamari · 19/09/2017 08:47

When I'm leading a horse on its 4 legs I tell it to "stand" to stop. So it stands still Grin

Fekko · 19/09/2017 08:48

Cats really can't stand dogs. 🐱 🐶

Standing on two legs in a cat to me is begging because they usually do it when they want something.

Limer · 19/09/2017 08:51

Eleanor that one is meerkatting.

Andrewofgg · 19/09/2017 08:51

When cats are standing they are plotting something.

When cats aren't standing they are plotting something.
