I'm 45 and out of touch admittedly but I keep seeing teens and early 20s young women, wearing the terrible crystal jewellry that was about in the 90s!

I'm old now aren't I?

If this is "back" then that's it...it's so frigging UGLY!

Back when I was hip and all that, I wore original 60s jewellry...so that's all they're doing isn't it??

Wearing the stuff I wore when I was young! Shock

Just checking...what are your teens and young women dds wearing?

Just googled and Vogue had "minerals" as one of the trends for summer 2017....I live in Oz and we're heading into Spring now and always a season behind...

When I say "minerals" I mean those semi precious stones you can buy in hippie shops. Only they're set in a more showstopping way.

I thought this would be about those awful pearl things people go mad for!

Not seen any crystals, just pearls.

MrsOverTheRoad · 18/09/2017 10:34

What pearl things? I'm in Oz and we're always behind!

Maudlinmaud · 18/09/2017 10:36

Haven't seen this trend yet. Just chokers lots and lots of chokers.

Idontevencareanymore · 18/09/2017 10:37

Basically you buy an oyster off someone usually on Facebook, then you buy some really tacky sometimes nice jewellery which your pearl gets set into.

It's all done over a live feed on Facebook and people get very excited. You watch the oyster being cracked open and all!

MaroonPencil · 18/09/2017 10:37

I know just what you mean, I used to have an amethyst on a silver chain when I was in my late teens. I loved it, and the hippie shop it came from - Traders of the East it was called.

But YABU, because that kind of thing makes me smile and remember happy times, so I don't mind at all seeing it around. We have a crystals/ unicorns etc shop here and it has a sign offering 10 per cent discount for members of the military -it always makes me smile to think of a sturdy crew-cut type going in to get his postcard with a dolphin on it and CD of whale music.

I raise your jewellery made by oysters and bring you jewellery made by caddisflies

Maroon that's it!

I am BU I suppose. I too had the joy of an amethyt on a chain!

Ha maroon, they're something else indeed!

makes the pearl jewellery look nice

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 18/09/2017 10:45

It makes me feel incredibly old when I realise the fashions of my youth are now coming back in the same way I wore the 60's and 70's fashions of my own mothers youth.
I walk around shops now and feel like I've been transported back 20 odd years.

TsunamiOfShit · 18/09/2017 10:46

Apparently Himalayan salt lamps are in now too.

I hate this fact as I actually love these salt lamps and preferred them to not be in or out, but now that they're in they're probably gonna be out soon!

Maudlinmaud · 18/09/2017 10:47

Maroon! What the heck? Looks like something I scoop out of the litter box.

Floisme · 18/09/2017 10:54

Well it was pretty weird in the 90s watching you lot walking round in stuff I'd worn in the 70s. But that's how fashion works - no-ones had an original idea since 1975.

limitedperiodonly · 18/09/2017 10:54

We all did this when we were young. It's when you get older that it looks sad. I saw someone in her 40s wearing lots of silver coloured rings with colourless crystals on both hands. I think they were her teenage daughter's. To make it even sadder she'd put them on her thumbs and forefingers. It looked desperate.

Glowerglass · 18/09/2017 10:55

I like it! I certainly like it better than Pandora stuff

Floisme · 18/09/2017 10:57

Why do you think it looks sad? She probably just still enjoys fashion - why should she give up?

RhiannonOHara · 18/09/2017 10:58

I don't know if I know what you mean. I had a phase (goth/hippy) of wearing a necklace of a crystal in a spiral-shaped silver thing, IYKWIM. Is it those?

WindwardCircle · 18/09/2017 10:58

The 90s seem to be in fashion wise, god knows why, it wasn't an interesting or stylish time. I keep seeing teens dressed exactly the same way I was twenty five years ago, I even saw a young man in full on new age hippy/raver gear the other day. I actually gawped at him from my car, I'm sure he thought I was shocked by his nonconformity, but what I was actually trying to work out was if I'd gone through a timewarp and come out in 1992.

carrie74 · 18/09/2017 11:00

I don't recall wearing crystals in the 90s (but I did wear chokers which are v popular again), but I have quite a lot of jewellery from here: Decadorn.co.uk which I love, and didn't get a 90s vibe...

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 18/09/2017 11:00

It's not 'awful' or 'ugly' it's just not to your taste OP. Fortunately, you are NOT the arbiter of taste.

I see lots of fashions come and go, clothes and jewellery that I don't personally like. I make a mental note never to buy it for myself and that works well. I really couldn't give a shiny rat's arse what other people like.

But, statements like yours are bound to cause offense because you're being judgemental and decreeing that something is 'awful' or 'ugly' doesn't make it so. It just makes you sound like a bit of a knob.

Never been able to bring myself to give a fuck about what other people wear. Personal choice and all that.

AlpacasPackOwls · 18/09/2017 11:01

I had one in the 90s on a black cord and the stone was in a silver spiral thing. Ah, remember those days..... jewellery was sodding awful

But anyway, the 90s are very fashionable again. So I'm not surprised the jewellery is coming back too.

MaroonPencil · 18/09/2017 11:02

I loved the 60s in the early 90s. I had two of those black and white dresses and a shiny bob, and used to play my parents' Beatles singles on the record player and dream of hanging out in Carnaby Street. They probably thought I was insane. Still have the dresses, no way I can fit into them though!
