to hate sanitary bins in public toilets?

why can't they be smaller so that you are not forced to sit on them?
or they are full so the lid doesn't close and they smell what's the point then ?
a small pedal bin with lid would surely do?

Well obviously not if the bigger bins are full. But it is annoying when they're crammed in.

I quite like the new tube shaped ones that you can't sit on. Much more fat arse friendly.

People are disgusting though. If they didn't provide bins then dirty scuzzers would leave used sanpro everywhere.

I don't think I have ever "sat on" a sanitary bin in my life? You are talking about the grey bins next to the toilet?

but in other countries you have smaller bins and not more mess except in france

My pet peeve is when folk stick their minging used pad inside the lid so when you lift it up to throw yours away you are faced with someone else's period blood! It doesn't take much to wrap it in the wrapper if your new pad or a sheet of loo roll so it doesn't stick.

A few months ago I was in a public toilet and put my hand up to pull down some toilet roll from the dispenser. Some dirty brute had taken their used sanitary towel and stuffed it into the toilet roll dispenser so that the next person to come along pulled out their sanitary towel instead of the toilet roll. Someone else's blood all over my hands was not pleasant. Angry

Surely it's small toilet cubicles that you hate.

This. IMO, the worst is when the little trash can is directly across from the giant toilet paper dispenser, and both are at knee level. You sit down and you're trapped between the two.

sometimes those bins are so large and high and the cubicles so narrow that you can't help planting your arse on it.
I'm a size 12 so not too large

I have never sat on a sanitary bin in my life, how do you even manage that? Maybe look where you are sitting!

Why do you sit on it?

I know exactly what she means. In my work toilets the sanitary bin is squeezed against the toilet seat and is slightly higher so your bum/thigh rests on it when you sit on the seat. They also smell as I think they aren't emptied often enough.

It's annoying when the cubicles are very small and there's literally no space between the bin and the toilet (bigger cubicles needed).
Also I do hate when other people do not wrap their used tampons or pads or liners in the wrapper or at least toilet paper.. (I always wrap my used tampon in toilet paper, and put the applicator back in the plastic wrapper, so other people do not have to see it).

YANBU OP. I'm a size 24/26, and I carry my weight on my arse and hips. I have to choose between hovering or sitting on the bloody bins.

I read something once (maybe even on here) about the over representation of men in architecture...hence same square footage dedicated to male and female toilets, despite more female toilets required to make queuing time equivalent. Same goes for this issue; female cubicles are usually designed with the toilet dead centre, despite needing to fit a bin on one side. Just hasn't been thought through with actual women in mind.

I know what you mean too OP, the sanitary bins in my office are squashed right next to the toilet.

They're also rarely emptied - sometimes they're so full that it's impossible to put anything in them. I'm always forced to wrap tampons/pads in a million sheets of loo roll and dispose of them elsewhere, which is grim.

I've never sat on a bin either. I do have an issue with toilet cubicles that are so small that you have to shimmy round the door to get in.

It's even worse when you have luggage like at an airport - I was in one yesterday and couldn't get in the toilet cubicle with my wheelie case but I was obeying all the tannoy announcements about not leaving luggage unattended so found it a struggle.

@Cheby exactly this! I've been banging on for years about how much better toilets designed by women would be! Just think, space for the sanitary bin, loo roll where you can comfortably reach it, and none of those annoying flush sensors situated just at shoulder height so your undercarriage gets sprayed with toilet water when you reach forward for the irritatingly just out of reach toilet roll! Angry

Don't sit on public toilets - ever

I agree sanitary bins could be designed to be lower or fixed to the wall away from the toilet

I couldn't agree more and I'm so glad I don't have to use them anymore. There's always some dirty mare who makes it unpleasant for other women by not putting their used towels/tampons on the inside of the lid without wrapping them and not making sure that they've gone down properly. What a horrible sight. It makes you wonder what goes through their minds.

Last week needed the loo in my local supermarket. Went in the cubicle and on the top of the sanitary bin was a pregnancy test and an empty packet of a big bar of Galaxy chocolate. Wonder if she are it whilst waiting to celebrate or comfort eat !
