They've launched a range of extra girlie socks for women..... and called it 'Hysteria'.

I can only assume they did zero market research. Or that they are sexist arseholes. Or both.

Are you going to complain about the mens line called "cry baby" or a line of trunks called "bang bang"?

I'm not sure it's meant that way. I can't see the website properly but what I can see says "it wasn't long ago women were called hysterical if they acted out of the ordinary. If they weren't prim and proper...."
That's all I can see

That's not the angle they are promoting though - it doesn't say that on their website anywhere visibleasidr from the initial google search and all their launch email says is this:

Hysteria: from the Greek word 'hystera', meaning uterus. Mostly used through history as 'the basis of the problem is that the subject is female' or 'is acting in a female way' (excitable, silly, screaming with shell shock, crying, fainting etc)'.

You can keep your uterus/Silly Woman Disease socks thanks! Grin

You don't like them, vote with your wallet and don't buy them.

In the meantime, you have just advertised their products to quite a few people on here who will like the idea and buy the socks. I like the name, the designs are completely over the top, it fits. Whatever name you chose will offend someone. Hmm
or pretend offense to cleverly advertise something

Are they 'reclaiming the word'? Or some bullshit like that.

Perhaps they were trying to just teach people how to spell....the word!!!!

The Victorians used hysteria as a diagnosis to validate forced hysterectomies and lobotomies on what they thought of as 'difficult women'. It was used as the justification for force feeding the suffragettes.

Forgive me for thinking that's an inappropriate name for a sock brand targeting women. Hmm
