AIBU to think that a corn on the cob is not a full meal. My mum seems to think it is but I'm starving!!

PinkHeart5911 Fri 18-Aug-17 15:33:31

Of course it's not a meal!

thecakefairy Fri 18-Aug-17 15:33:49

It's fine if it has got a family bucket of KFC attached to it, with fries!

No, it's not really a meal. It's just veg to have with a meal.

VinoTime Fri 18-Aug-17 15:34:32

Ooh. Depends.

How big are they and how many are we talking? I'd happily sit and munch my way through a couple of big cobs for dinner with loads of butter.

Is this DC or adult related?

Orangebird69 Fri 18-Aug-17 15:36:10

My ds would think it was. But he is only 22mo. Yanbu.

Mirrorface Fri 18-Aug-17 15:38:36

They were big but there was just one. This is me as a full on adult!

Mycarsmellsoflavender Fri 18-Aug-17 15:40:51

No way. It would be a side dish in our house.

This

Would be a light meal in our house, served with bread and butter and plenty of ground black pepper. Similar to baked beans on toast.

greendale17 Fri 18-Aug-17 15:50:59

Not a meal whatsoever

AdaColeman Fri 18-Aug-17 15:51:56

Nice as a starter with a main course to follow.

Gileswithachainsaw Fri 18-Aug-17 15:52:07

Nope not a meal.

Trills Fri 18-Aug-17 15:53:06

It doesn't matter how big it is, one item is not a meal.

SnowiestMountain Fri 18-Aug-17 15:54:37

Snack - yes
Meal - no

lynmilne65 Fri 18-Aug-17 15:55:02

No way

SapphireStrange Fri 18-Aug-17 15:56:36

Add a couple of sausages and yes. On its own, never. What's the context, OP? Did someone serve it for dinner?

Allthebestnamesareused Fri 18-Aug-17 15:56:51

It's a vegetable.

Italiangreyhound Fri 18-Aug-17 15:56:52

It's a side dish or a snack. (Or in some counteries it is pig food I think!)

I love it but it is not a meal!

HamptonWick1974 Fri 18-Aug-17 15:59:26

We were given this for tea as children (late 1970's!). Though we usually got a couple each and some bread and butter.

DC like them - but they are one of the veg during a meal or something fun on the BBQ.

LockedOutOfMN Fri 18-Aug-17 16:00:41

It's not a meal. I might have a giant one for my lunch if I were home alone and craved it, but I wouldn't serve it up as a meal even to my DH and DC who have quite small appetites and all like corn on the cob.

My mum would, though. I'd probably have to share a small one with my dad.

It's a mum thing, I think. wink

I'm all for a light lunch (or light tea if you've had a big meal earlier), and am often quite surprised on here when people talk about how much they eat, however, even I would say that a corn on the cob isn't a meal on its own, lovely though it is.

MoosicalDaisy Fri 18-Aug-17 16:01:17

FGS now I fancy KFC

millmoo Fri 18-Aug-17 16:03:51

Me too !! I want a KFC now
😆

ItsNachoCheese Fri 18-Aug-17 16:04:24

Its a snack not a meal. I would serve corn on the cob with chicken and wedges, that is a meal

BarbaraofSevillle Fri 18-Aug-17 16:04:30

Well I'm quite a light eater, but even I'd say that a corn on the cob is only ever going to be a side dish.
