AIBU?

That this person would have been caught by now.

Well apparently the Croydon cat killer has struck again. Aibu in thinking that if this was people he (she?!) was killing that they would have been caught by now. I get that it's "just cats" to some people but obviously this person is dangerous and needs to be off the streets.

Some serial killers operate for years. Or are never discovered.

And yes of course more police time is put in if someone is killing people

Hmm I thought that was quite rare these days for serial killers to do it for years?? But surely with all the CCTV there must be something.

I think it's probably more than one person tbh,

This case was featured on a recent documentary about the Metropolitan Police and the only witness who's seen the person who is almost certainly the individual responsible identified them as being a man. They also featured experts profiling the perpetrator and though of course what they are doing is horrific, they were also said to be displaying traits which could lead to offending against humans - in fact they arrested someone on suspicion of being the person in part due to their sexual offending (though they were ruled out).

What's also worrying is how adept they are at avoiding CCTV and so forth. Of course if a human is killed then more resources are deployed but unfortunately there are a number of unsolved murders as well. I believe only one detective is working on this case, or was at the time of the documentary.

YABVU to equate murdered people to cats, yes.

The killings are frequent. Sometimes there are 'sprees'.

SNARL have been getting publicity and urge people to keep their cats in at night but people are not seeing the TV reports, hearing the radio or seeing the papers because it is not publicised widely enough. My first ever post on here was because of a post I read as I was in contact with Tony at the time.

They organise leaflet drops. You can help.

There are lots of people who think it won't happen to their cat. Refuse to keep their cat inside because it makes him/her unhappy.

SNARL have a FB page with updates, it takes a lot of scrolling sometimes. They also have a website.

Whoever it is is a psychopath . I live in the Bromley area where cats have been beheaded by the nutter .

Serial killers get away with it as they are clever, they plan . they clean up etc . . I got that from Dexter I admit Grin

And it COULD indeed be a female . Look at Joanna Donahue , the female Serial Killer from Cambridgeshire area Admitted to 9 but may be more.

Report
NoLoveofMine · 18/08/2017 13:54

Joanna Dennehy was convicted of three murders and two attempted murders. Either way, female offenders of this sort are extremely rare and the only probable sighting of the perpetrator in question on this thread is of a man.

Nope

It's an unreasonable comparison to wonder why more effort goes into finding the murderers of people than cats.

I agree. many sickos out there. I'd like him/them caught and his/their head, hands and feet cut off and delivered to his family. This is what he has done with plenty of his victims so if its good enough for them...

Nonsense. The link between torturing/killing animals and humans is long since proven.

A friend of mine in Dorset has had her 2 cats killed, the killer left the body parts in places where her daughter goes and she found them. They believe it's her ex boyfriend who's doing it, but they can't prove anything.

I think the police prefer less publicity in cases like this as there are people who will copy the original killer.

It's horrific and I'm glad my cat can't get out of our garden.

It's going to be someone obsessed with birds/wildlife who is doing it. They should be focusing their search on men, probably aged between 40 and 75 who are locally involved with bird watching and/or nature generally.

I just think this person needs to be caught before they get bored and move on to somethig else! Could start killing people theyve obviously got a lot of issues.

YABVU Everyone knows this person needs to be caught. I just dont think you realise how difficult it is to actually catch criminals.
Everyone also knows to keep their cats in at night, dont they?

It is no longer being called the Croydon Cat Killer, no longer only in that area it progressed to M25 Cat Killer and is now UK Cat Killer.

According to SNARL and the Police it is most likely to be a male. Please read what they say on the website and FB page - all these comments have been addressed many times on there.

They should treat it as seriously as a serial killer - in the States the FBI now have an alert system for animal abusers, so strong is the link between that and more crimes against people. Most killers show past abuse, and abuse against animals seems common enough for them to use it as a red flag warning

Letstryagainshallwe · 18/08/2017 14:34

Oh ok whenever I see
It in the news there's never any description of a suspect. Just thought that surely there would be CCTV!!
"The unfortunate moggy’s tail had been cut off, his neck broken, his side cut open and part of his leg skinned." Yep only a matter of time before this person moves on to people IMO

And if the sicko does get caught, what sentence will he actually get? Will he be watched? Frankly this is a dangerous person who could well move on to people but animal abuse just isn't taken seriously enough (then again neither is child abuse imo).

Report
HazelBite · 18/08/2017 14:43

The link between animal and child abuse is clearly there. A friend of the family works as an RSPCA inspector and said if they go somewhere where the animals are suffering badly and their are children on site they alert the relevent authorities
