I have rather a large head, struggle to find a hat that fits etc. So find the idea absurd. As a child surely my head would be dragging on the floor?!

We've measured our heads here...just in case this question came up....and two adults and one 6 yo all have the same head size to within 1 cm.

I can't explain it, but it totally looks like DD has a smaller head than me...but the tape measure says otherwise.

Depends. Dh's family have big heads (his brother couldn't find a cub cap to fit), I have a small head.
Dd1 and dd2's heads take after dh and have heads bigger than mine since they were about 5yo.
Ds's head is still smaller than mine at 10yo.

I've just tried on a hat labelled age 5-7 and it won't go on my head at all, even if I open the back plastic thing fully (baseball cap).

That said I do have a massive head. Adult hats almost never fit either. It runs in the family. My dad and his brothers had to have special caps made for them in school as the standard ones didn't fit them.

I'm with you OP. It just doesn't seem possible does it. I try image me with a 5 year old body under my head and it just doesn't make sense, it'd look crazy bubble head. Yet 5 year olds generally look sensibly proportioned. How?

I'm small. DS 6's head is only slightly smaller than mine by a couple of cm. He has an adult hat and cap that are a good fit. People don't believe how big I claim his head is as he has a dainty face, but he has a very deep head from jaw to crown. It also bulges on one side which is all concealed by a lovely mop of hair. He'll regret it if he ever has a skinhead

Hat and glove sets are rubbish as he has rather small hands!

Actually I wish my head was bigger because adult hats are always way too big. On the plus side there is a fine selection of Paw Patrol caps available to me!

Babies start with very over proportioned heads and very short limbs. Over time the, proportions of limbs changes most, and the torso, and people grow into their heads which relatively speaking grows least.

I can fit into a hat DS wore as a toddler(it's a bit of a squeeze but I can wear it without looking outlandish) he has a large head (affectionately known as bucket head, I have a small one and am referred to as pin head by my DC).

I use a child's cycling helmet (it has Dora on it)

Luckily for me my tiny head is entirely full of brain.

I've a giant head too OP so maybe this is what makes it difficult.

I like do to spread the word that a big head does indeed mean big brain, but I make it a challenge for it to be a believable statement at times.

The bones in your head have fused by the time you are five so as far as i know the head stays roughly that size for life then !
I have a child with a large head as he has hydrocephalous and the neurosurgeon told me that fact .Toddlers heads are actually out of proportion with their bodies !

I'm not sure about this as my dd used to regularly grow out of hats.Also your nose,mouth and jaw grow, they'd be a bit squashed up on a 5year olds head.
We have an old cycle helmet from when she was six and her head is definitely bigger(the spiders don't take up thatuch space)
